
Terriers Travel to FGCU Spring Break Classic

FGCU/Four Points Spring Break Classic Central
BOSTON - After trips to Arizona and Texas, the Boston University softball team will continue its 26-game season-opening road trip in Florida at the FGCU/Four Points by Sheraton Spring Break Classic with five contests on March 6-8.
The Terriers (0-10) will open the three-day event against Pittsburgh (15-2) on Friday at 2:30 p.m. and follow with FGCU (10-11) at 7 p.m. BU will then face LIU Brooklyn (3-15) and Quinnipiac (1-3) on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., respectively. The final matchup will take place Sunday against one of the four schools with the selection dependent on the previous results.
TERRIER TIDBITS
• Five of BU's losses have come against nationally-ranked opponents with the other five opponents owning at least seven wins already.
• BU is batting .215 and owns nine stolen bases in 10 attempts ... The Terriers scored 20 runs in five games at then-No. 21 Arizona State's Littlewood Classic but was limited to just five at last weekend's Texas A&M Invitational.
• Junior Lauren Hynes leads the Terriers with a .316 batting average and .500 on-base percentage.
• Junior Moriah Connolly is next at .276 avg and owns a team-high nine runs scored ... Senior Emily Felbaum (.261 avg.) and sophomore Gabi Martinez (.208 avg) have combined for five homers and 11 RBIs.
• Freshman Sydni Overly (0-3, 3.27 ERA) made her first four appearances last weekend at Texas A&M ... She held opponents to a .304 batting average and tallied nine strikeouts in 15 innings ... The entire staff currently has an 8.06 ERA with teams batting .378.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Pittsburgh, 15-2 (Friday, 2:30 p.m.)
• The Panthers are off to their best start in program history and are coming off a weekend series win over Virginia ... Own key wins over UC Santa Barbara, Northern Illinois and College of Charleston with losses to the UVa and Appalachian State.
• Pittsburgh is batting .360 and has outscored opponents, 123-48, with 18-4 advantage in homers.
• Shelby Pickett is batting .477 and has a team-high 18 RBIs with nine doubles and 22 runs scored ... Taylor is next at .440 with five homers, 16 RBIs and a .800 slugging percentage.
• The four-player pitching staff owns a combined 2.41 ERA with opponents batting .235 ... Savannah King (9-0, 1.75 ERA) leads the way with three shutouts and owns 23 strikeouts in 52 innings.
Florida Gulf Coast, 10-11 (Friday, 7 p.m.)
• The Eagles sit at 10-11 having won its last two games against Eastern Michigan (9-0) and Rhode Island (3-1) ... FGCU went 33-26-1 last season and fell to Mercer in the Atlantic Sun semifinals.
• FGCU is 4-3 at home this season with three wins over Oakland and a 10-2 victory over Stony Brook Dropped a pair to Purdue and fell to Bethune-Cookman ... Outscored by then-No. 3 Alabama and No. 11 Tennessee by a combined score of 22-1.
• Team is batting .282 and has 43 stolen bases on 43 attempts in 21 games ... Kelsey Carpenter is batting .345 with a team-high 14 RBIs ... Kelsey Huff is batting .372 and owns a team-high 14 runs scored with 13 stolen bases.
• The four-person pitching staff owns a 4.98 ERA with opponents batting .315 ... Shelby Morgan (4-1, 2.98 ERA) leads the way with 23 strikeouts in 44.2 innings.
LIU Brooklyn, 3-15 (Saturday, 10 a.m.)
• The Blackbirds have played 10 games against major conference opponents with losses to then-No. 11 Kentucky (5-3) and No. 21 California (11-1) ... Also dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 17 UCF ... Own wins over Georgia Tech, Princeton and Florida A&N.
• The team is batting .210 ... Whitney West is the lone Blackbird above .237 at .322 with seven RBIs and eight runs scored ... Angie Vazquez (.220 avg) leads LIU with eight RBIs, while Madison Green (.130 avg) owns two homers.
• LIU's three-player pitching staff owns a 7.42 ERA with opponents batting .357 ... Shelley Procter (1-9. 6.62 ERA) has 12 starts with 32 strikeouts in 55 innings.
Quinnipiac, 1-3 (Saturday, 12:15 p.m.)
• The Bobcats last played on Feb. 13-14 in Charlotte, N.C. ... Earned a 7-5 win over Army and fell to Charlotte (11-1) ... Also dropped a pair of games to Ohio University by a combined score of 24-6.
• Quinnipiac batted .260 with Molly Jarrett (.571 avg.) going 4-of-7 with a homer and three RBIs ... Nikki Barba (.417 avg.) added a homer and four RBIs ... The Bobcats did not attempt a single stolen base.
• The four-person pitching staff has a 10.22 ERA with opponents batting .367 ... Sydney Robey (1-2, 10.00 ERA) has two strikeouts in seven innings ... Casey Herzog (0-0, 7.00 ERA) appeared in all four games and held batters to a .262 hitting average with seven strikeouts in 10 innings.
