Softball Homers Way Past Colgate to Complete Series Sweep, 13-3
April 12, 2026 | Softball
HAMILTON, N.Y. – Highlighted by a program record-tying four homers, the Boston University softball team completed the Patriot League series sweep at Colgate in run-rule fashion, 13-3.
With every starter in the lineup touching home plate, the Terriers (33-11, 11-1 PL) put up a 10 spot in the second and cruised from there to defeat the Raiders (20-21, 7-5 PL).
Junior Kylie Doherty grabbed sole possession of the PL record for homers in a season at 18 by hitting 3-for-4 with a two-run blast and solo shot as part of a four-RBI performance. Sophomore Kieren McHugh went 3-for-4 as well and joined classmate Kyomi Apalit in recording one solo homer apiece. Junior Sophie Naivar hit a perfect 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored, while both senior Brooke Deppiesse and junior Livia Christopher combined for three RBIs and four runs scored.
In the circle, senior Kasey Ricard (24-5) went the distance and started with three scoreless innings against Colgate, who finished with three runs thanks to a pair of homers. Ricard totaled four strikeouts without allowing a single walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the bottom of the first, the Raiders had the first runner in scoring position thanks to a lead-off infield single and one-out single to center, but Ricard ended the threat on a swinging strikeout and line out to third.
- Apalit then immediately in the top of the second grabbed the lead for good by launching a 2-1 pitch toward center.
- The next eight Terriers to have an at-bat reached base with Deppiesse following up on an error and wild pitch earned a two-RBI single through the right side to extend the lead to 5-0.
- Doherty and McHugh next delivered back-to-back homers to increase the team's total to three in the inning.
- Both senior Megan Coyle and Christopher both earned an RBI to enter the bottom of the second leading, 10-0.
- After Ricard retired the side with the help of two strikeouts, Doherty led off the third with her second homer of the contest.
- Doherty added another RBI in the fourth by first plating Christopher from third on a single up the middle and then drawing a rundown between first and second to help Deppiesse push the lead to 13-0.
- The Raiders avoided a second consecutive shutout by singling to first and launching a 2-0 pitch to left center for two runs.
- Nora Megenity added a solo blast in the fifth for the contest's final run before Ricard ended the game on a foul out to third.
- With three homers on the week, Doherty is currently atop the PL single-season record rankings at 18 total, two ahead of Colgate's Megenity. Owner of 38 career homers, Doherty is also one shy of tying the PL mark held by the Raiders' Dorothy Donaldson ('05).
- Already the program and PL record holder for career victories, Ricard increased her win total to 98, two shy of the century mark.
- Earning two run-rule victories in one weekend series against Colgate for the first time, BU improved to 38-1 all-time.
- BU will make the short trek over to Harvard on Tuesday (April 14) for a 4 p.m. start time.
- The Terriers have won the last six contests with three of them being decided by a combined five runs.
- Last season at home, Doherty broke the scoreless deadlock with a two-run homer in the sixth, as the teams combined for just five hits in the pitchers' duel.
