CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - After starting at No. 1 singles and doubles for the Patriot League champion Boston University women's tennis team with a 3.60 GPA, junior Johanna Hyoty has been named the conference's Scholar Athlete of the Year, the league announced Monday afternoon.
The award marks the Terriers' first in the Patriot League and third overall in the last four years after Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadis was tabbed the America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year in both 2012 and 2013.
With the announcement, the Tampere, Finland native has received her third major PL honor after she was named the 2014 Patriot League Player of the Year and Tournament MVP her sophomore season.
Hyoty compiled a 19-11 singles record this season that included a three-set win over Boston College's then-No. 61 ranked Jessica Wacnik. Other highlight wins came against 2015 MAC champion Miami Ohio's top player and a 2014 All-CUSA First Team honoree from then-No. 70 North Texas.
In the Patriot League tournament, she won her only completed singles match and was 3-0 at No. 1 doubles, as the Terriers defended their league title.
A two-time conference honor roll member and 2014 ITA Scholar-Athlete, Hyoty is majoring in business administration and management.
