BURLINGTON, Vt. – Seven different Terriers recorded a point as the Boston University women’s ice hockey team skated to a 3-3 draw at Vermont on Saturday afternoon at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
BU (13-8-2, 10-4-2 WHEA) led twice and also battled back from a one-goal deficit during the 65-minute contest. Vermont (6-16-2, 4-8-2 WHEA) scored late in the second period to salvage a point, as both teams were unable to break the deadlock in the third period or overtime.
Sophomores Victoria Bach and Rebecca Leslie each lit the lamp, as did junior Samantha Sutherland. Freshman Sammy Davis, junior Alexis Crossley, senior Sarah Lefort and senior Alexis Crossley each chipped in an assist apiece. Sophomore Erin O’Neil made 24 saves between the pipes.
Lefort extended her point streak to 10 games (9g, 13a) while Sutherland pushed her point streak to three straight games (1g, 3a). Bach’s goal was her seventh over the last six games.
Leslie gave BU a 1-0 lead just 1:02 into the proceedings. A Vermont skater attempted to pass the puck into the Terrier zone, but it went off a teammate’s skate and bounced to Leslie. The sophomore then skated right by the Catamount defense and uncorked a wrist shot that beat Madison Litchfield (32 saves) for Leslie’s sixth strike of the season.
Vermont scored twice in a span of 1:43 to take a 2-0 lead at the 12:11 mark of the period, but Sutherland’s strike pulled the Terriers to level terms entering the first intermission. Davis fed Woloschuk at the left point, and the senior defenseman fired a shot on goal. Litchfield made the save, but Sutherland had excellent position at the top of the crease and she knocked home the rebound for her fifth goal of the year.
Bach regained the lead for BU just 34 seconds into the second stanza during one of the Terriers’ fifth power-play chances. She knocked home a rebound off a Lefort shot for her team-leading 14th goal of the season.
Taylor Willard’s second goal of the game at the 17:38 mark made it 3-3 after 40 minutes. BU had the majority of the scoring chances in the third period and overtime, but Litchfield stopped all 10 shots she faced over the final 25 minutes. Her best saves came when she stopped Leslie and junior Maddie Elia from point-blank range on the same sequence.
The two teams will be back on the ice tomorrow at 2 p.m.
