The Boston University women's ice hockey team will conclude a four-game road stretch on Tuesday when the Terriers make the short trip to Matthews Arena to face Northeastern. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Both BU (3-1-1, 2-1-0 WHEA) and Northeastern (3-2-1, 0-0-0 WHEA) will be playing their third game in five days, though the Terriers have traveled over 860 miles in that time. The journey was a positive one, however, as BU came back to tie Penn State, 3-3, on Friday, before earning a 7-2 victory on Saturday.
The Terriers and Huskies have a long history with one another, with BU owning a 30-13-5 all-time record against Northeastern. The last meeting was on March 5, 2016 in the Hockey East semifinals, when, as they had for the previous three years, the Terriers eliminated the Huskies from the league tournament. Eleven of the 30 wins have come at Matthews Arena, the most recent victory being on Jan. 18, 2015.
BU boasts the top offense in the country, averaging a robust 4.40 goals per game. No other team in the nation is averaging over four goals per game. Individually, sophomore Sammy Davis is tied for fifth in the nation with nine points while senior Samantha Sutherland is tied for first in the country in goals with seven. The reigning Hockey East Player of the Week, Mary Parker, is tied with Sutherland for eighth in the nation with eight points. Six of Parker's points came at Penn State, where she had a hat trick and two assists on Saturday.
Junior Erin O'Neil is slated to start between the pipes for BU on Tuesday. She had a career game in that Hockey East semifinal game last season, making a career-high 54 saves to preserve a 4-3 victory. She stopped 32 shots in Friday's 3-3 tie at Penn State and enters Tuesday with a 1.92 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage.
Northeastern had a similar weekend to BU this past Friday and Saturday, earning a 2-2 tie with Syracuse before defeating the Orange, 1-0, on Saturday. The shutout was sophomore Brittany Bugalski's second of the season. She owns a 1.58 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage. On offense, junior Denisa Krizova leads the Huskies with eight points (4g, 4a). Freshman defenseman Codie Cross also has four assists while junior McKenna Brand has also scored four goals.
Following Tuesday's tilt, BU will have a full week off before hosting the Huskies at Walter Brown Arena on Tuesday, Oct. 25.
