Terriers Drop 3-2 Outcome to No. 7 UConn

BOSTON – The Boston University women's ice hockey team (4-11-2, 4-6-2 HE) fell to No. 7 UConn (13-3-2, 6-1-1 HE) in a 3-2 decision on Saturday evening at Walter Brown Arena.
After a scoreless first period, BU got on the board early in the second frame to take a 1-0 lead. That lead held until late in the stanza when UConn tied things up. The Huskies tacked on another goal early in the third, taking a 2-1 lead that lasted until late in the frame. BU evened the score, 2-2, after pulling its goaltender with under five minutes left in the third. UConn scored the go-ahead goal with seven seconds left to defeat BU, 3-2.
Freshman Avery Supryka led in points with a goal and an assist. Senior Lilli Welcke also scored while senior Luisa Welcke and sophomores Keira Healey and Kaileigh Quigg registered assists. Junior Mari Pietersen made 28 saves between the posts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- With 6:48 to play in the first, BU was called for too many skaters on the ice.
- The Terriers were successful on the kill.
- The score remained 0-0 through the opening frame.
- Just 4:17 into the middle stanza, Supryka passed to Lu. Welcke in the slot, who then sent a backhanded pass to Li. Welcke.
- Li. Welcke then fired off a shot from the near circle that went in at the far post to give BU a 1-0 lead.
- BU went to the box for tripping with 6:16 to go in the second.
- UConn evened the score 10 seconds into the power play.
- The Huskies then went to the box for slashing at the 15:11 mark but held BU from scoring.
- UConn scored its second goal at 2:08 in the third to take a 2-1 lead.
- The Terriers went to the box for boarding with 8:33 to play in the third and were successful on the penalty kill.
- After a UConn timeout, BU pulled Pietersen from the posts with 4:15 to play.
- Quigg won the next faceoff to set BU up to maintain possession.
- K. Healey then passed to Supryka at the blue line, whose shot deflected in to tie the game, 2-2.
- With seven seconds left, UConn found the back of the net to defeat BU, 3-2.
GAME NOTES
- UConn outshot BU, 31 to 22.
- BU was 0-for-1 on the power play while UConn was 1-for-3.
- UConn won 22 faceoffs compared to BU's 18.
- BU blocked 12 shots and was led by senior Maeve Carey who blocked three.

- BU will next play in Belfast against Quinnipiac for the first game in the Friendship Series on Friday, Jan. 2, 2026.
