The Boston University women's ice hockey team will head across the Charles River on Tuesday to face Harvard at Bright-Landry Hockey Center. The game, which will be broadcast nationally on ESPN3, is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
BU (7-5-1, 6-5-0 WHEA) has won two straight games and four of its last five following a weekend sweep of Merrimack in which the Terriers outscored the Warriors, 7-3. They will look to carry that momentum into Tuesday's tilt with Harvard (1-5, 1-4 ECAC), a squad that is on a five-game losing streak since winning its season-opener. BU owns a 3-8-1 record against Harvard, with the one tie coming in 2014, the last non-Beanpot meeting between the schools.
Tuesday will mark the first and potentially only time that graduate student Mary Parker will face her former team. Parker graduated from Harvard last year after playing three full seasons and parts of last year. While there, she tallied 91 points (43g, 48a) in 104 career games.
Parker has been an important player for BU this season as she leads the team in goals (11) and points (9). She is on a six-game point streak (5g, 5a) and has scored a goal in each of the last four contests, including the game-winning goal in Saturday's 2-0 win over Merrimack. Junior Victoria Bach has also been on a scoring tear, bringing a five-game point streak (6g, 4a) into Tuesday's tilt.
The Terriers scored seven goals this past weekend in the sweep of Merrimack and they now own the second-best offense in the country with an average of 3.85 goals per game, right behind Clarkson (3.88) and ahead of Boston College (3.47), which ranks fifth. Saturday was the first time all season that BU won a game without scoring at least five goals.
While Harvard is on a five-game losing streak, the Crimson have not been far away from victory. Each of the last three losses have been by just one goal, including two in overtime. One of those overtime defeats was its last loss, a 3-2 setback at New Hampshire on Tuesday, Nov. 15.
Senior Sydney Daniels leads the Crimson in goals (4) and points (4) while senior Briana Mastel is tops on the team with three assists. Two seniors - Molly Tissenbaum and Brianna Laing - have each played three games between the pipes for Harvard. Laing secured the one win and has a better goals-against average (2.35), but Tissenbaum holds a higher save percentage (.933).Â
Following Tuesday's game, BU will face another Ivy League opponent when Princeton visits Walter Brown Arena for a weekend series that begins Friday night (7 p.m.).
