Four Terriers Earn Patriot League All-Conference Accolades
November 7, 2016 | Men's Soccer
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – After helping guide the Boston University men's soccer team to its third-straight Patriot League tournament appearance, junior Anthony Viteri, senior David Asbjornsson, senior Felix De Bona and senior Matt Gilbert have received All-Conference accolades, the league office announced Monday morning.
Viteri was placed on the first team as a midfielder for the second consecutive year after finishing second on the team in both goals (7) and points (16). Highlights include two game winners in the past three games against Holy Cross and Army West Point. The Flushing, N.Y., native also netted the game winner against UMass and scored in the season opener at then-No. 8 Boston College.
Named to the second team as a forward, De Bona was also honored a second time after ending the regular season first on the team in both goals (8) and points (17). The Somerville, Mass., native has been on a tear recently, scoring a pair of goals at Loyola Maryland along with game winners against Lafayette and Dartmouth, who had an RPI ranking of 18 at the time. He also assisted on Friday's game winner against Navy to help the Terriers clinch the PL tournament berth.
Joining their teammates in receiving a second-consecutive honor, Asbjornsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) and Gilbert (Madison, N.J.) were both named to the second team after playing critical roles this season on the defensive end. Besides scoring a goal against UMass, Asbjornsson has anchored the backline and helped BU shut out seven opponents, including Brown for the first time since 2007. Gilbert has been impressive at net, ranking 37th nationally in saves per game (4.50) and 38th in save percentage (0.800).
The Terriers will next host Bucknell on Tuesday (Nov. 8) at 7 p.m. in the opening round of the Patriot League tournament.
