BOSTON - Riding a three-game win streak, the Boston University softball team will host Lafayette with Saturday's doubleheader slated to begin at 12 p.m. Sunday's Senior Day ceremonies recognizing Lauren Hynes, Kelly Plescow and Melanie Russell will take place prior to the rubber game's 12 p.m. start.
The Terriers (16-20, 2-4 PL) have won four of their last five games, including Thursday's come-from-behind 5-1 eight-inning victory at UMass Lowell, while the Leopards (12-24, 2-7 PL) are riding a two-game win streak after sweeping Rider at home, 8-7 and 10-5.
SCOUTING LAFAYETTE
• The Leopards are 2-7 in conference play with two wins at home over Holy Cross ... They suffered sweeps to Bucknell and at Lehigh with one loss against the Mountain Hawks going to nine innings.
• Lafayette is 4-17 in true road games this season with wins over Maryland Eastern and Howard.
• The Leopards are batting .265 as a team with nine homers and 34 stolen bases in 38 attempts ... Brooke Wensel leads in hitting at .348 with eight doubles, 16 RBIs and seven stolen bases ... Samantha Sweigart (.333) and Allison Brown (.308) are the other two hitters above .300 with Brown posting a team-high 18 RBIs.
• Lafayette has had four pitchers earn at least five starts apiece ... Kristy Marinelli (3-7, 3.92 ERA) has pitched three complete games ... Stephanie Thomas (2-9, 5.22) owns a team-high 33 strikeouts in 63.0 innings.
SERIES HISTORY
• BU is 6-0 all-time against the Leopards since joining the Patriot League in the summer of 2013.
• In 2014 at home, the Terriers jumped out to a 10-1 win and then held on for 2-1 and 3-1 victories ... Last year at Lafayette, BU posted a 12-2 victory in game one and then followed a hard-fought 3-2 victory with a 10-2 win.
UP NEXT
• The Terriers will remain home and host another three-game series against defending PL champion Lehigh on Tuesday (April 26) and Wednesday (April 27) ... The Mountain Hawks originally visited back on April 2-3, but inclement weather postponed the series.
