Terrier Alum Vanessa Steiner ('11) Named Director of Tennis at Duquesne
August 1, 2016 | Women's Tennis
PITTSBURGH - A former two-time America East All-Conference honoree, Boston University women's tennis alum Vanessa Steiner ('11) has been promoted to Director of Tennis for both the Duquesne men's and women's tennis programs. She had spent the previous two years with the Dukes on the women's side as an assistant coach.
Steiner had a strong start to her collegiate career at BU, as she earned All-Conference First Team accolades and helped lead the Terriers to the 2008 America East title. Unfortunately, however, she was plagued by injury the following two years and would come back in the 2010-11 season to claim All-AE Second Team honors in doubles with a 12-4 record at the No. 3 slot.
Following graduation with a degree in elementary education in 2011, Steiner used her extra year of eligibility to collect a combined 36 wins and Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team honors at Duquesne while pursuing a master's in English as a Second Language. She spent two years as a graduate assistant and was elevated to assistant coach in July of 2014.
This past season, Steiner guided the Duquesne women to a school-tying-record 16 wins, the final nine while acting as head coach.
