HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bridget Conway made a big save in the 17th minute when she reached to just get a hand on a shot to send it up and over the crossbar. From there she stayed composed in net and made two more important stops over the next five minutes.
- Conway shined in the closing two minutes of the first half, completing a jaw-dropping series of saves to keep the game scoreless going into halftime. She punched a shot over the net but it nicked the crossbar and went back into play where a UConn player was waiting on the doorstep. What looked like a definite goal was somehow thwarted by a diving save by Conway, who was still getting up after the first stop.
- Early in the second half, Conway made another gasp-worthy save as she stopped a point-blank shot. Rachel Bloznalis then made a crucial play in the box, catching up to a UConn player on a break-away and getting a foot on the shot to give Conway a break.
- Alivya Wimmer makes a play reminiscent of Bloznalis' as she makes it to the ball in the nick of time to block a shot that would have been tough for Conway to handle. The BU defense stepped up their pressure to take some off of Conway throughout the second half.
- TURNING POINT: With 1:11 left in regulation, UConn's Stephanie Ribeiro juked out a BU defender and was able to break free in enough time to sneak a low shot past Conway to win the game.
- Bridget Conway totaled a career-high six saves as UConn outshot BU, 7-3, on net.
- BU is now 4-5-0 all-time against the Huskies.
- "I thought we came to play today, and I'd like that to be what we're known for. The kids poured in a lot of effort and played as a unit and delt with UConn's attacking players very, very well."
- "Bridget [Conway] had a great game. She did everything right. Even on the shot she slightly mis-played in the first half, she sticks with it. She's a confident kid and she's just going to keep getting better."
NEXT UP: HOFSTRA
- The Terriers travel to Hofstra for a Thursday evening game against the Pride.
- Gametime is set for 7 p.m. at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
- BU is 8-0-1 all time against the Pride.
