CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – After leading the Boston University men's soccer team with four goals during the regular season, sophomore Matt McDonnell has been named to the Patriot League All-Academic team, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.
The honor comes two days after he received All-PL Third Team accolades. Both conference awards marked the first for the Smithtown, New York, native who also added an assist to help the Terriers claim the No. 2 seed for the PL tournament.
McDonnell topped last year's three-goal total by finding the back of the net against American, Holy Cross, Lafayette and Northeastern with the first two goals proving to be game winners. Besides assisting on a goal against Loyola Maryland, he helped BU shut out seven opponents, including six during league action.
In the classroom, McDonnell owns a 3.58 GPA while majoring in business administration and management. He was previously named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll as a freshman.
The Terriers will next fly south to Loyola Maryland for the final two rounds of the PL tournament. They will first face in-state rival Holy Cross in the semifinals with an 8:05 p.m. start time.
