BOSTON - Rising senior Jesse Shreck of the Boston University women's soccer team has returned to the U.S. after representing Team USA in the 20th World Macabhiah Games, also known as the Maccabi Games, in Israel last week.
"The 2017 World Maccabiah Games allowed me to play soccer at a competitive international level as well as connect with people from all over the world whom share a common birthright," remarked Shreck. "It was one of the best experiences of my life."
Shreck and Team USA cruised in the preliminary round, shutting out Brazil, Great Britain and Australia by a combined score of 18-0 to advance to the semifinals. In the opener against Brazil, Shreck dealt an assist in a 3-0 victory before Team USA exploded for 11 goals against Great Britain, as Shreck tallied two goals and one assist. In a 4-0 triumph over Australia, Shreck found the back of the net on a free kick and also provided an assist.
In the semifinal matchup against Mexico, Team USA pounded the scoreboard once again for 10 goals, as Shreck dished out a pair of assists to advance to the championship game, where it fell to Israel, 2-1.

"Although playing soccer in Israel was beyond incredible," started Shreck. "I also got to travel around the beautiful country where I learned even more about the Israeli culture. Bonding with each person on my own team through soccer but also on more spiritual and emotional levels is what made my Maccabiah experience so extraordinary. Even though my team came up just short of a gold medal in the championship game against Israel, I truly won in unforgettable memories, ever-lasting friendships, and greater knowledge about my Jewish identity."
