CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – After earning its fourth straight Patriot League tournament appearance, the Boston University men's soccer team had three Terriers receive All-Conference honors, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Senior defender Josh Barkoff was placed on the second team, while both senior goalkeeper Mike Bernardi and freshman midfielder Kari Petursson were named to the third team.
A native of East Brunswick, New Jersey, Barkoff received his first-ever All-PL honor after starting in all 16 appearances during the regular season in the backfield. He was named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 10 after recording an assist and playing a key role in limiting 6-foot-6 All-American Davis Smith to just one shot attempt for the 3-2 victory against defending Atlantic 10 champion UMass. Despite missing two games due to injury, he still logged the second most minutes at 1,437 while helping BU claim three shutouts.
Named to the second team in 2017, Bernardi currently ranks second in the PL in saves per game (4.69) while posting a 1.25 goals against average and .782 save percentage. The Mahopac, New York, native tallied shutouts against Holy Cross, Lafayette and Army West Point. His performance against the Black Knights and Bucknell earned him a PL Goalkeeper of the Week honor on Oct. 29. He still leads the NCAA with saves in a game after posting 14 total at Princeton back in September.
Petursson ranks second on the team with 11 points off three goals and a team-high five assists. He netted the game-winning goal against UMass to claim PL Rookie of the Week honors and later received Midfielder of the Week accolades following a second game winner against Army and two assists against Bucknell. The Gardabaer, Iceland, native also netted a goal against Brown and tallied an assist against Dartmouth, Loyola Maryland and American.
As the No. 4 seed, the Terriers will next open the PL tournament on Tuesday (Nov. 6) by hosting No. 5 Army with a 7 p.m. start time.
