BOSTON – Recognized for their performance on the field and in the classroom, senior David Riccio and junior Mana Chavali of the Boston University men's soccer team have been named to the 11-player Academic All-Patriot League Team, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.
In order to qualify for the Academic All-Patriot League, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and play in at least 50 percent of this year's contests. Student-athletes are voted onto the team by a representative from each of the member teams.
A native of Latham, New York, Riccio earned his first All-PL honor after starting all 19 games this season on the backline. He netted his first-career goal in the 2-1 OT win against Bucknell and helped the Terriers shut out four squads this season. A two-time PL Academic Honor Roll member, the co-captain currently owns a 3.41 GPA and is set to graduate with a degree in biology (specialization in neurobiology).
Chavali started in 12 of his 17 appearances this season as a midfielder and scored a goal at Loyola Maryland. The Brookline, Massachusetts, native currently owns a 3.84 GPA while majoring in economics. He was named to the 2017 PL Academic Honor Roll after transferring from Clark University.
Wednesday's announcement marks the first time since 2015 that BU had multiple Terriers named to the Academic All-PL squad.
