BOSTON – The Boston University women's soccer team held its annual awards banquet to celebrate the 2017 season Saturday evening in the Colloquium Room at Boston University's Photonics Center.

United Kidz Soccer Development's Lee Docherty started off the night as a guest speaker before nine Terriers were honored.

The Alumni Association Most Improved Player Award, presented by Andrea Green '13, was given to senior Jacki Carty. After several injury setbacks throughout her career, Carty played in all 21 games this season and served as a tri-captain. The Cherry Hill, New Jersey native scored twice against Colgate en route to being named the Patriot League Midfielder of the Week on Oct. 30. Carty stayed hot down the stretch of the season as she netted the game-winning goal in the Patriot League quarterfinals matchup against Lafayette.

Mariah Alexander was presented with the Academic Achievement Award. A three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member, Alexander is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences and has maintained a 3.78 as a political science major and was recently accepted into the BA/MA program and will be on track to graduate with a dual degree next spring.

The 2017 Patriot League Rookie of the Year, Anna Heilferty, earned the team's Rookie of the Year award after tying for the team lead in points (13) and goals (5). An All-Patriot Second Team member, Heilferty tallied 11 points and four goals against conference opponents.

Fellow forward Christina Wakefield collected the Most Valuable Offensive Player Award after tying with Heilferty for the team lead in points and goals. Wakefield concluded a sensational senior season by tabbing 10 points in league play en route to earning a spot on the All-Patriot League First Team.

The Most Valuable Defensive Player award went to Alivya Wimmer, marking the second straight season she has earned the distinction. A four-year starter on the backline, Wimmer guided the defense to 10 shutouts and limited opponents to just 9.0 shots per game.

The Terrier Award, presented annually to the most valuable team member, went to Kelly Park. An energetic and enthusiastic presence both on and off the field, Park netted BU's first goal of the season in the opener at Louisville.

The Community and Team Leadership Award was presented to Pietra Sweeney. Sweeney, along with Rachel Bloznalis and Dorrie Varley-Barrett, spent a week over winter break in Nicaragua as part of Soccer Without Borders and was one of many volunteer activities that Pietra participated in the last year.

The Jean Kelleher Award, presented annually in memory of dear parent liaison and mother of former player Shauna Kelleher, was the final award of the night. This year's award, given to a non-team member who has contributed and supported the program, was presented to Tim Carey, who has served the team as its photographer and end-of-season video creator for the past three seasons.

The Strength and Conditioning Award went to Rachel Bloznalis. The program's first two-time United Soccer Coaches Division I Scholar All-American, Bloznalis repeated as the Patriot League Defender of the Year and was one of 30 student-athletes in the nation to be named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List. Her father, Peter, accepted the award on her behalf.

The eight graduating seniors were also honored for their contribution to the program over the past four years. Rachel Bloznalis, Jacki Carty, Hannah Ciolek, Erin Neville, Jessie Shreck, Christina Wakefield, Hannah Wilcox and Alivya Wimmer were all recognized.
