Terrier Twelve - #3: Men's Ice Hockey Claims Hockey East Crown
July 27, 2018 | General, Men's Ice Hockey
Coming in at No. 3 is the men's ice hockey team claiming the 2018 Hockey East title and knocking off top-seeded Cornell in the NCAA Tournament.
After a tough first half, the Terriers turned into one of the top teams in the nation, losing just twice in their final 14 games of the regular season before rolling through the league tournament en route to their ninth Hockey East crown. BU ended the season of archrival Boston College in the Hockey East semifinals before blanking Providence in the title game to secure an NCAA bid for the fourth straight season under the guidance of head coach David Quinn.
In the NCAA Tournament, the Terriers headed to Worcester for the Northeast Regional and knocked off top-seeded Cornell, 3-1, before coming up one win short of a trip to the Frozen Four.
Junior Bobo Carpenter and sophomore Dante Fabbro received All-New England and All-Hockey East honors while junior Jordan Greenway had an unprecedented year, becoming the first-ever player to appear in the NCAA Tournament, the Olympics and the NHL Playoffs all in the same year.
It ended up being Quinn's final season with the program, as the Terrier alumnus went on to be named head coach of the New York Rangers. Associate head coach Albie O'Connell was promoted, becoming the 12th head coach in the history of the BU men's ice hockey program.
