Northeastern Edges Terriers, 3-2, in 2OT

Brookline, Mass. – Taking on its crosstown rival, the Boston University women's soccer team scored a pair of goals late in the first half, though Northeastern would tie the game up in the second half to force overtime, where the Huskies netted the golden goal in the 104th minute to escape with a 3-2 victory Thursday night at Parsons Field.
McKenna Doyle tied the game in the 24th minute before Heilferty put the Terriers on top at the 38-minute mark. Northeastern delivered the equalizer in the 63rd minute and would end the game just over three minutes into the second period of overtime on a dart that slid in just under the crossbar from 35 yards out.

How It Happened
- Royce Light nearly converted a bicycle kick in the 2nd minute, though it banged off the upper 90 and the follow-up chance by McKenna Kennedy was blocked.
- Northeastern took advantage of a corner kick in the 15th minute, as Pietra Sweeney blocked the initial shot, but Hannah Rosenblatt drove in in the rebound.
- BU responded in the 24th minute as Heilferty lined a free kick from 35 yards towards the box that Doyle cashed in. The Huskies made first contact, lifting a headed towards the goal that Doyle finished off with a header of her own.
- Heilferty took things into her own hands in the 38th minute, curling through a pair of Huskies defenders and worked her way to the top of the crease before ripping her second goal of the year to give the Terriers a 2-1 advantage.
- Northeastern nearly delivered an equalizer of its own in the 55th minute, looping a shot towards an open net, but McKenna Kennedy lunged for the ball to preserve the lead with a last-second clear at the goal line.
- However, the Huskies would get another chance in the 63rd minute and Nicole Gorman slotted game-tying goal into the back left post.
- Northeastern's Valent Soares Gache roped the golden goal into the upper 90 just over three minutes into the second frame of OT.
- The Huskies now lead 3-2-1 In overtime games against the Terriers and have won five of the last six matchups against BU.
- BU held a 20-19 edge in shots and has led its opponent in shots in three of its first five games this season.
- BU will welcome UConn for Terrier Tailgate on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 4 p.m.
