HOW IT HAPPENED
Stanley Alves scored both goals to help the America East preseason favorite River Hawks remain unbeaten at 2-0-1, while the Terriers drop to 0-2-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alves put the first shot on goal in the 14th minute for the River Hawks that led to a corner kick following sophomore William Bonnelyche's save.
- UML had one more quality look late in the first half with a cross that led to Malango Mayele's point blank shot but again Bonnelyche came up with a well-positioned save.
- One of BU's best opportunities to score came in the 71st minute when junior Matt McDonnell collected a ball at the top of the box, rifled a shot that was blocked by a UML defender and then sent the rebound just wide right of the post.
- Two minutes later, Alves headed in a cross to put the River Hawks ahead for good and added another at 77:26 by charging down the right side and shooting past the keeper.
- Zach Rowell made his lone save of the game at 80:56 on sophomore Austin D'Anna's attempt to preserve the shutout.
- Both UML shutouts this season have come on the road following the season-opening 1-0 victory at UMass.
- The River Hawks finished with a 10-8 advantage in shot attempts and 2-0 lead in corner kicks.
- McDonnell, D'Anna and sophomore Peter Kargbo all collected two shots apiece for the Terriers.
- Bonnelyche recorded three saves in his second consecutive start.
- The Terriers remain ahead in the all-time series, 4-3-0, after UML claimed its second consecutive 2-0 win.
- The Terriers remain at home and next host UMass on Friday, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m.
- The Minutemen won last year's matchup in Amherst, 1-0, with the help of a penalty kick in the 51st minute.
- BU won the previous meeting at Nickerson Field, 2-1, in 2016.
