BOSTON - Freshman
Rebecca Janes notched her first collegiate goal and senior goalkeeper
Kathleen Keegan earned her first shutout as a Terrier as the No. 21 Boston University field hockey team posted a 2-0 home win over Colgate on Saturday afternoon at New Balance Field.
Janes opened the scoring and sophomore
Petra Hall added another goal before halftime to provide BU with all the scoring it would need. The Terriers improve to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in Patriot League play while the Raiders fall to 2-7 on the year with an 0-2 conference mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both BU goals came in the opening half and the home team got on the board off their first of 11 corners on the afternoon.Â
- Janes inserted the ball and an attempt from the right side was deflected by sophomore Miya Denison into the pads of Colgate netminder Anna Unger.Â
- Denison pounced on the rebound and slotted a pass to an open Janes at the left post for her first collegiate tally at 12:18.
- The Terriers doubled their lead in the 29th minute on yet another corner.
- From the left side, senior Kara Enoch passed off to Hall, whose redirect from the middle of the circle went inside the right post for her fourth goal of the season.
- BU earned eight corners in the latter half but Unger and the Colgate defense were up to task, keeping the Raiders in the game.
- Colgate put on some pressure in the closing stages, earning all five of their corners in the final nine minutes of the regulation.
- Keegan stopped the only shot on goal the Raiders produced and closed out her first collegiate shutout.
GAME NOTES
- BU held a 19-4 shot advantage, including a 12-1 margin in the opening half, and had 11 corners to Colgate's five.
- Unger turned in a nine-save performance for the visitors, who also got a defensive save from Meredith Rappaport.
- Janes became the 10th different Terrier to score a goal this season.
- BU has now won its past eight meetings with Colgate.Â
