The No. 24 Boston University field hockey team hits the road this weekend for a pair of contests beginning with a Patriot League match-up at Lafayette.
The Terriers will take on the Leopards at noon on Saturday (Sept. 29) before heading to New Jersey to face No. 5 Princeton on Sunday (Sept. 30) at 1 p.m.
BU enters the weekend 6-3 overall and 2-0 in Patriot League play following a 2-0 home win against Colgate in its most recent game on Sept. 22.
The Leopards (2-7, 1-0 PL) has alternated wins and losses over its past five contests, most recently dropping a 3-1 home contest to Liberty on Sunday. Lafayette opened league play with a 3-2 overtime win over rival Lehigh.
All five meetings between the Terriers and Leopards have come in Patriot League play with BU holding a 4-1 advantage. The lone loss came at Lafayette two years ago in game that was decided in a shootout. That was BU's last conference loss as it brings a 12-game PL win streak into Saturday's contest.
Junior Lisa van der Geest leads Lafayette in both points (8) and goals (4). Freshman Molly McAndrew has made early contributions with two goals and an assist while sophomore Grace Angelella has a pair of goals.
In goal, junior Sarah Park has started all nine games for the Leopards and sports a 3.45 goals-against average and a .667 save percentage.
Princeton blanked Yale, 1-0, on Friday evening to improve to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in Ivy League play. The fifth-ranked Tigers' top wins thus far have come against Duke, Delaware and Wake Forest.
BU is 3-10 in 13 all-time meetings with the Tigers. Princeton came out on top in a hard-fought 1-0 contest last season at New Balance Field in the teams' first meeting since 2005.
The Tigers benefit from a balanced scoring attack as six players have at least eight points. Senior Sophia Tornetta took over the scoring lead with two goals against the Bulldogs on Friday and now has 14 points on six goals and two helpers. Sophomores Clara Roth and MaryKate Neff each have five goals and have contributed 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Junior netminder Grace Baylis has played every minute in goal thus far this season and has a 1.62 goals-against average to go along with a .594 save percentage.
Six Terriers have at least two goals on the year with the sophomore duo of Ailsa Connolly (5g, 2a) and Petra Hall (4g, 2a) combining for 22 points. Senior Ally Hammel (4g, 2a) has nine points while classmate Kara Enoch and freshman Casey Thompson each have two goals and two assists.
Senior goalkeeper Kathleen Keegan recorded her first collegiate shutout last weekend, lowering her goals-against average to 1.55.
