BLACKSBURG, Va. – Battling against three nationally-ranked individuals and two ranked duos, the Boston University men's tennis team fell in the dual season opener at Virginia Tech, 7-0, on Thursday afternoon.
Coming off their 10th straight NCAA appearance, the Hokies (1-0) swept through doubles by a combined score of 18-5 and then captured all six singles points in straight sets for the team victory against the Terriers (0-1).

- The nation's No. 43 ranked duo of Henrik Korsgaard and Alexandre Ribeiro opened with a 6-1 win against sophomore Owen Lu and freshman Max Hartenstein.
- No. 42 Carlo Donato and Mitch Harper helped the Hokies claim the doubles point with a 6-2 victory at line 2 against sophomore David Bogatin and freshman Max Stehling.
- In singles action, Lu battled No. 30 Jason Kros to the end in a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 decision.
- Stehling almost won a set against No. 118 Henrik Korsgaard but fell in the tiebreaker for the 6-1, 7-6(5) loss at line 3.
- Bogatin also forced a tiebreaker in a 7-6(2), 6-2 defeat to Alex Ribeiro in the No. 2 slot.
- Junior J.P. Avila won a combined five games at line 5, while Hartenstein (#3) and junior Marc Sable (#6) won two games apiece before falling in straight sets.
- The Terriers will visit the Wildcats on Friday (Jan. 18) with a 4 p.m. start time.
- Davidson blanked BU, 7-0, in the last meeting in 2009 on Brown's campus.
