Terriers Honor Senior Class; Dropped 1-0 by Colgate

BOSTON – The Boston University women's soccer team saw its Senior Day spoiled as Colgate handed the Terriers a 1-0 defeat Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.
Despite controlling possession for the majority of the game, Colgate made its chances count, heading in a feed off a corner kick for the game-winner in the 63rd minute.
With the loss, BU saw its 53-game unbeaten in home conference games streak snapped, which was the longest active streak in the NCAA.

How It Happened
- BU maintained possession from opening whistle, as Julianna Stureman and Anna Heilferty both stroked quality looks within the first 10 minutes of play.
- Colgate turned the momentum in its favor, firing off five shots over an eight-minute span, including two on goal, but the Terrier defense held and regained control of possession.
- Chloee Sagmoe was able to strike BU's first shot on goal in the 27th minute, bending a ball that landed in arms of Colgate's keeper.
- Morgan Messner made a spectacular punch-out save in the 35th minute, fending off a quality chance from 12 yards out, keeping the game scoreless at the half.
- BU earned its first two corners in the 52nd and 54th minute, but couldn't get a shot off from either set piece.
- Messner made another highlight-reel save in the 62nd minute, making a diving stop to prevent a sure-fire goal directed towards the inside post.
- After the Terriers fended off the initial corner, Leah Lewis headed in the ensuing set piece by Julia Lindsey to put the Raiders on the board.
- BU responded on the attack with shots by Geovanna Pereira and Caitlyn DiSarcina in the 65th and 71st minute.
- Kate Collins nearly drove in the equalizer from 30 yards out in the 85th minute, but the ball bounced off the crossbar.
- Pereira had two chances in front of the net in the final five minutes, but Colgate's Sophia Boggs held her line to preserve the shutout.
- Seniors Kelly Harris, Emma Heil, Shannon Keefe, Ann Marie Jaworski, Rachel Kingston, Kelly Park and Chloee Sagmoe were honored prior to the start of the match.
- Saturday marked BU's first conference home loss since 2007.
- Colgate placed 11 of its 16 shots on goal compared to BU landing just three of its 13 shots on frame.
- BU sold breast cancer awareness bracelets at the game, raising over $500 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institution.
- BU will play its final regular season home game on Wednesday, Oct. 23 against Holy Cross.
- Opening whistle is set for 7 p.m.
