
Women's Basketball Opens 2019-20 Season vs. Marist Friday at The Roof

BOSTON - Ready to start the 2019-20 campaign, the Boston University women's basketball team will welcome Marist to The Roof at Case Gym on Friday, Nov. 8. Opening tip is scheduled for 6 p.m. and can be seen live on the Patriot League Network.

- BU is coming off its first winning season in five years, finishing at 15-14, which included an 11-7 mark in conference games to match its best regular season record in Patriot League games.
- Reigning Patriot League Coach of the Year Marisa Moseley enters her second year at the helm, working with nine returners and six newcomers.
- Riley Childs, Vanessa Edgehill, Nia Irving and Katie Nelson will serve as captains for the 2019-20 season.
- Irving led the Terriers in rebounding (8.5) for the second straight season and is the team's leading returning scorer (11.8).
- The trio of Childs, Irving and Nelson accounted for 46.3 percent of the team's scoring last year, and represent 88.3 percent of the returning scoring total.
- The Terriers own a 19-25 record in their first game of the season.
- This will be the first time since the 2012-13 that BU will open up its season against an opponent other than Northeastern.
SCOUTING MARIST
- Marist is coming off a 23-10 season, which ended with an 81-51 loss to Quinnipiac in the MAAC championship game.
- The Red Foxes were predicted to win the MAAC this season, while Alana Gilmer and Rebekah Hand were named to the Preseason All-MAAC First Team, and Grace Vander Weide earned a spot on the Preseason All-MAAC Second Team.
- Marist also returns the majority of its scorers, as its 10 returnees accounted for 87.9 percent of its scoring from the 2018-19 campaign.
- Head coach Brian Giorgis will start his 18th season leading the Red Foxes and is one win away from his 400th career win.
THE SERIES
- The Red Foxes have won each of the last six matchups and hold a 10-5 edge in the all-time series.
- BU's last victory came in a 62-56 overtime contest in Poughkeepsie on Dec. 8, 2012.
- This will be the 12th straight season where BU and Marist will play one another.
- BU will start a three-game road trip at New Hampshire on Tuesday, Nov. 12 for a 6 p.m. tilt.
