December 26, 2019 | Men's Ice Hockey
Zegras, who is making his World Junior debut, made the final 23-player roster that is competing at the 2020 World Junior Championship from Dec. 26, 2019 - Jan. 5, 2020, in Ostrava and Trinec, Czech Republic.
BU has now had 18 representatives on Team USA at World Juniors since 2014, which is the most of any school. Last year, Joel Farabee and Logan Cockerill earned silver medals with the U.S. at the 2019 tournament.
Zegras is tied for first among Hockey East freshmen in points with 17 on five goals and 12 assists and is the only rookie in the league currently averaging over a point per game. A two-time Hockey East Rookie of the Week, Zegras has already three three-point efforts this season, including a three-assist performance in the Terriers' most recent game, a 6-3 win over Northeastern on Dec. 7.
Zegras will be wearing a Team USA jersey again after playing two seasons with the U.S. National Team Development Program, becoming the fourth player in program history to record 100 assists in the process. He played on bronze-medal team at 2019 U18 World Championship, tallying nine assists, which tied for second-most in tournament, and participated in four other tournaments (2018 U18 Five Nations Tournament (4-5--9), 2017 World U17 Challenge (2-4--6), 2018 U17 Five Nations Tournament (2-7--9), 2017 U17 Four Nations Tournament (2-2--4). This summer, he was selected ninth overall ato the 2019 NHL Draft by the Anaheim Ducks.
All of Team USA's games at World Juniors will be televised on NHL Network and all of the contests in group-play will start at 1 p.m. ET. After taking on Canada on Thursday, the American squad will also face Germany (Dec. 27), Russia (Dec. 29) and tournament host Czech Republic (Dec. 30) in group play.
