Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

No. 9 BU Completes Weekend Sweep of No. 8 BC with 2-1 Win

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior Jesse Compher collected her 100th career point when she assisted on senior Abby Cook's game-winning goal in the third period of the No. 9 Boston University women's ice hockey team's 2-1 victory at No. 8 Boston College on Saturday afternoon at Conte Forum.

BU (12-4-1, 7-4-1 HEAW) completed its second weekend sweep of BC (11-6-2, 10-5-1 HEAW) in as many seasons thanks to goals by Cook and redshirt senior Sammy Davis. Sophomore Kaleigh Donnelly provided the primary helper on both markers. Junior goaltender Corinne Schroeder made 25 saves and did not allow a 5-on-5 goal to help BU claim all four points this weekend and earn its fifth straight victory to close out the first semester.

Compher is the 14th Terrier in program history to reach the 100-point milestone. She now has 33 goals and 67 assists in just 82 games. She joins Davis in the prestigious group of 100-point scorers, as Davis is eighth all-time with 121 career points (56g, 65a).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Schroeder made nine saves in the first period, with her best stop coming during 4-on-4 play at the 11:42 mark. Savannah Norcross received a pass all alone between the circles, but Schroeder stood her ground and denied Norcross the game's first goal.
  • BU capitalized on a five-minute major to take a 1-0 lead at 11:23 of the second stanza. Compher dished the puck to Donnelly at the left half-wall, and the sophomore forward sent a cross-zone pass to Davis in the right circle. Davis uncorked a wrist shot over Maddy McArthur's glove and into the top right corner of the cage for her seventh strike of the season.
  • BC equalized at 10:18 of the third period on a power-play chance.
  • Cook regained the Terriers' advantage with a power-play strike at the 12:28 mark with a shot from the top of the zone that found its way through a sea of bodies to reach the back of the net.
  • BC pulled its goalie for an extra attacker with less than 30 seconds remaining in regulation but was unable to find a second goal.
GAME NOTES
  • Schroeder has not allowed a 5-on-5 goal in her last 179:54 of work.
  • Compher extended her point streak to five games (6g, 6a) and has a point in six of her eight games this season.
  • BU has won seven of its last eight games.
  • The Terriers had killed 15 straight penalties prior to the Eagles' power-play marker.
  • Donnelly has now posted four two-point efforts this season
UP NEXT
  • BU will be off until Jan. 4, 2020, when the Terriers begin a two-game series against Maine at Walter Brown Arena.
  • Davis and Compher will join USA Hockey's Winter Training Camp from Dec. 9-13 in Hartford.
