WEST POINT, N.Y. – After capturing the crucial doubles point, the No. 5 seeded Boston University men's tennis team claimed three singles points in straight sets to eliminate No. 4 Bucknell, 4-2, in the Patriot League quarterfinals on Friday afternoon at Army West Point's Lichtenberg Tennis Center.

By reaching the PL semifinals for the fifth time in six years, the Terriers improve to 9-15, while the Bison see their season ended at 12-13. Besides avenging last weekend's 4-3 loss to Bucknell, BU also finally had official payback for the 2015 PL quarterfinal loss (4-3).

HOW IT HAPPENED

Sophomores David Bogatin and Owen Lu posted a 6-1 in the top doubles slot, while the Bison earned a 6-2 victory at line 3.
Facing a 4-3 deficit with the doubles point up for grabs, freshman Max Hartenstein and junior J.P. Avila won the final three games to pull out a 6-4 victory.
With all six singles matches taking place at the same time, Bucknell briefly grabbed a 2-1 lead following a 6-1, 6-1 victory at line 6 and 6-2, 6-2 win the No. 5 slot.
After winning at No. 1 doubles, Lu rolled to a 6-3, 6-4 victory at line 2 to tie the score, and teammate Bogatin posted a 7-5, 6-2 win in the top slot to retake the lead for the Terriers.
Hartenstein sealed the team victory with a 6-4, 6-4 win at line 4.

NEXT UP: NAVY (PL SEMIFINALS)

The Terriers will face top-seed and defending PL champion Navy, a 4-0 winner over No. 8 Lafayette, on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
The Midshipmen last season edged the Terriers, 4-3, in the PL semifinals by winning the doubles point and capturing the final point in a three-set thriller at line 5, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
Navy won the first meeting this year, 4-1, at the Winchester (Mass.) Indoor Tennis Club back on March 31.
