
Terriers Set for PL Championships Friday & Saturday

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Boston University men's and women's track & field teams will compete at the Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships this Friday and Saturday at the College of the Holy Cross' Hart Track & Field Complex.
The meet is scheduled to begin on Friday with the women's 10,000-meter run beginning at 9 a.m., followed by the men's 10,000-meter run at 9:45 a.m. Multi-events will begin at 10:45 a.m. with the women's heptathlon and field events will begin with the men's pole vault at 11:30 a.m.
The championships will conclude on Saturday afternoon with the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay, scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m. and 5:25 p.m., respectively.
A live broadcast of Saturday's action can be seen on the Patriot League Network beginning at noon.
WOMEN'S OUTLOOK
• Last year at the PL outdoor championship, BU won four events on their way to a fifth-place team finish.
Senior Lovie Burleson will look to defend her title in the triple jump and is currently seeded third with a 12.04m (39'6") mark. Burleson will also look to medal in the long jump where she is currently ranks fourth in the conference (5.78m – 11'11.75).
• Junior Leah Fowlkes, who did not compete in last year's outdoor championship due to injury, enters the meet with the third-best time in both the 200m (24.45) and 400m (55.35) and will compete for medals in both events.
• Abigail Gugel will look to win gold in the 10,000 meter run. She enters the meet with the best time in the event (34.56.97) which she set at the Raleigh Relays back on March 29. Gugel, who is the reigning indoor PL 5000m champion, will also compete in the 5000m run on Saturday.
• Standout freshman Andrea Claeson will look to medal in the 1500m run and enters the meet with the third-fastest time in the conference (4:28.60).
• Junior Ava Gruzen will have high hopes for a gold medal as she enters the meet as the top performer in the heptathlon (4363 points).
• Bridget Chiaravalle will compete in the 100m hurdles after winning gold in the 60m hurdles at the indoor championships in February.
• Sarah Cicchetti will compete in the hammer throw looking to cap off her outstanding BU career after breaking the Boston University school record in the weight throw during her senior indoor season.
MEN'S OUTLOOK
• On the men's side, the Terriers will look to improve upon their performance at last year's outdoor championships where they won two gold medals and finished fourth as a team.
• Junior Paul Luevano is the defending 1500m PL champion and enters the PL championship with the best time in the event this season with a time of 3.45.26 he set last week at the Virginia Grand Prix. Luevano will also compete in the 5000m and the 4x800m relay.
• Senior Alexander Seal will compete in the 3000m steeplechase and enters the meet with the second-best conference time in the event (8:58.77). Seal's time is currently 31st best in the East Region and qualifies him of NCAA regionals.
• Senior Jason Biesma will compete for a gold medal in the decathlon as he enters the meet as the conference's top performer in the event (6624 points) which he set at the Jim Click Shootout in Tucson, Ariz. back on April 6. Biesma, who is the school record holder in the men's heptathlon, will also compete in the long jump.
• Junior sprinter Chiebuka Onwuzurike will look to medal in both the 100m and 200m dash. He enters the meet with the third-fastest 100m dash time (10:52) and third-fastest 200m dash time (21.39).
• Senior Johnathon Kemps will compete in the 1500m run looking to medal as he enters the meet with the fifth-fastest 1500m time (3:48.56). Kemps will also compete in the 5000m and the 4x800m relay.
NAVY LOOKS TO DEFEND
The Navy men will look for its sixth-consecutive and seventh overall outdoor track & field championship, while the Navy women are striving for back-to-back wins along with their fourth overall outdoor championship.

• Following the Patriot League Championships, BU will compete in the IC4A/ECAC New England Outdoor Championships on May 11-12 in Princeton, N.J.
