Terriers Compete in Day 1 of PL Championships

Day 1 Results
WORCESTER, Mass. - The Boston University women's track & field team completed Day 1 of the Patriot League Championships hosted by Holy Cross on Friday. The day was highlighted by a silver medal performance by senior Lovie Burleson who finished second in the long jump with a jump of 5.78m (18'11.75")
Several Terriers also had strong performances in the preliminaries. Bridget Chiaravalle finished first in the 100m hurdles semifinals with a new personal-best time of 14.17 and qualified for Sunday's finals. Ebony Brown competed in the 100m dash and finished seventh with a personal-best time of 12.13 to qualify for Sunday's finals. Brown also qualified for the finals in the 200m dash, finishing second in the prelims with a time of 24.60.
FRIDAY'S RESULTS
• In the first running event of the meet, Abigail Gugel finished fourth in the 10,000m run with a time of 36:57.36 to earn the Terriers five points in the team standings.
• Lovie Burleson finished second in the long jump with a jump of 5.78m (18'11.75") to win silver.
• Bridget Chiaravalle finished first in the 100m hurdles semifinals with a new personal-best time of 14.17 and qualified for Sunday's finals.
• Ebony Brown competed in the 100m dash and finished seventh with a personal-best time of 12.13 to qualify for Sunday's finals. Brown also qualified for the finals in the 200m dash, finishing second in the prelims with a time of 24.60.
• Cecelia Gerstenbacher also qualifed for the 200m dash finals after finishing sixth in the prelims with a time of 24.94.
• Sarah Cicchetti took seventh in the hammer throw with a throw of 50.09m (164'04") and earned the Terriers two points.
• The 4x800m relay team of Emily Turner, Stephanie Forbes, Casey Kelly and Laura Parkinson finished sixth with a time of 9:03.43.
• Kennedy Jones finished fifth in the long jump with a 5.58m jump (18'3.75").
• Through Day 1, Ava Gruzen is in third place in the heptathlon with 2,702 points through four events.
• Zoe Beard took eighth in the pole vault with a vault of 3.55 meters (11'7.75").
CURRENT STANDINGS
With six events scored, the BU women are tied for fifth place with 23 points. Navy leads with PL Championship 70.5 points.
