February 4, 2020 | Women's Tennis
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Highlighted by her first win over a nationally-ranked opponent, freshman Erica Di Battista of the Boston University women's tennis team has collected her third straight Patriot League Player of the Week award, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.
Di Battista won both of her singles matches this past weekend in New York, first posting a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Cornell's 2019 All-Ivy League honoree, Valerie Ho, to help the Terriers edge the Big Red, 4-3. She then followed up with a dominating 6-1, 6-3 victory against Syracuse's No. 64 nationally-ranked Guzal Yusupova to improve to 13-1 in singles action.
The Montreal, Quebec native's upset win was BU's biggest since three-time Patriot League Player of the Year Johanna Hyoty beat Boston College's No. 61 Jessica Wacnik in 2015. Hyoty was the last Terrier to win three straight PL Player of the Week honors in the month of February, 2016.
Sitting at 3-1, BU will next host Rhode Island on Saturday at 3 p.m.
