WORCESTER, Mass. – Fueled by a fast start, the Boston University women's basketball completed the season sweep of Holy Cross with a convincing 62-51 decision over the Crusaders Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center.
Maggie Pina continued her 3-point scoring tear as she led all scorers with 19 points, cashing in 15 of those from distance on a 5-for-8 shooting clip.
Nia Irving followed with a 13-point effort on 6-of-9 shooting, while
Riley Childs led the Terriers with eight rebounds to go with 10 points.
How It Happened
- Pina lit it up from beyond-the-arc to start, putting in back-to-back makes to thrust the Terriers ahead, 6-2.
- The freshman sharpshooter made it 3-for-3 from distance before Childs and Maren Durant furthered the lead to 15-8 at the end of the opening quarter.
- BU and Holy Cross went back-and-forth to start the second until the Terriers used a 7-0 run to pull ahead, 26-12, after a Nia Irving worked the post midway through the frame.
- The Crusaders answered with a 9-2 streak to end the half, but BU held firm with a seven-point advantage.
- Holy Cross made it a five-point game to begin the third, but BU's freshmen trio of Durant, Pina and Sydney Johnson accounted for a 7-0 streak to put the Terriers back ahead by double-digits, 38-25.
- Irving continued to attack the paint with a pair of layups, while Tenisha Pressley capped the third with a buzzer-beater from the block to make it a 49-38 game.
- Holy Cross came within single digits twice to start the fourth quarter, reducing the gap to 54-48 with four minutes left on the clock.
- Childs and Johnson motored through the lane for makes in the paint, regaining the 10-point lead, 58-48, with just over two minutes remaining.
- From there, BU finished out the game from the free throw line to seal the season sweep.

- BU earned its second sweep of the Crusaders since joining the Patriot League and its first since the 2016-17 season.
