BOSTON – In a rematch of last year's Patriot League title game, the defending champion Boston University men's basketball team will welcome Colgate to Case Gym for a two-game series with both Saturday and Sunday's tip-off slated for 6 p.m. Fans will be able to watch the first contest on ESPN+ and the second meeting on the CBS Sports Network.
Both squads are coming off season-opening splits with the Terriers first claiming an 83-76 win at Holy Cross and then dropping a hard-fought 68-66 home decision to the Crusaders. The Raiders rocked Army West Point at home in their first contest, 101-57, but the Black Knights rebounded in the rematch, 75-73.
Four players averaged double figures for BU with senior Javante McCoy leading the way at 16.0 ppg. He's now just 17 points away from tying James Garvin for the No. 27 spot in the record book at 1,112 career points. Highlighted by his season-opening double-double, redshirt-freshman Daman Tate leads the Terriers in rebounding (9.0 rpg) and steals (2.5 spg) while averaging 14.5 ppg and 58.8 percent from the field. Junior Jack Hemphill (14.0 ppg) posted a career-high 16 points in Tuesday's home opener and is averaging a combined 11.5 rpg with senior Sukhmail Mathon (10.0 ppg).
Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year Jordan Burns has recorded 24 consecutive games in double figures and leads the Raiders at 19.5 ppg while also dishing out six assists per game. Nelly Cummings is close behind at 17.5 ppg with both Tucker Richardson (13.0 ppg) and Keegan Records (10.0 ppg) also in double figures. Standing 6-foot-10, Records owns a team-high 12.0 rpg to help the defensive effort. The Raiders went 25-9 last season with a 14-4 PL mark for their second consecutive regular season title by averaging 76.6 ppg and 10.2 made 3-pointers but were held to a season-low four treys in the title game by the 21-13 Terriers on March 11.
