BOSTON – Riding a two-game win streak, the Boston University women's soccer team will remain on the road as it heads to Lafayette for a 2 p.m. match on Saturday, March 27.
The Terriers are coming off a 1-0 shutout at Holy Cross last Sunday. Geovanna Pereira, who leads the Patriot League in game-winning goals, redirected a rebound from Jenna Oldham in the 23rd minute. Morgan Messner picked up her second clean sheet of the season as the defense limited the Crusaders to just four shots on the day. The four shots were the lowest a team in the Patriot League has recorded in a single game this season.
The duo of Pereira and Oldham have either scored or assisted on all three of BU's three goals this season. Each has four points through three games, which has doubled each of their previous career highs for points in a season.
Alyssa Bourgeois was recognized as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Tuesday. Bourgeois, who earned her second start against Holy Cross and played in 67 minutes, helped the back line hold the Crusaders shotless in the first half.
Lafayette earned its first points against the Terrier last season, storming back in the final minutes for a 2-1 decision. BU got on the board in the 81st minute, but the Leopards delivered the equalizer in the following minute before netting the game-winning goal in the 87th minute.
BU still holds a commanding 7-1-0 lead in the all-time series and has outscored Lafayette 22-3 over the eight-game series.
Lafayette is coming off a 3-1 victory at Colgate last Saturday to bring its record to 1-1-1. Camryn Monfort was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal in the 67th minute. The Leopards lead the league in in shots per game (16.3) while Melissa Lamanna leads the team in goals (2) and points (4).
