BOSTON - Incoming freshman Ty Gallagher of the Boston University men's ice hockey team was selected by the Boston Bruins in the seventh round of the 2021 NHL Draft, which was held virtually on Saturday.
Gallagher was the second Terrier taken in this year's draft, joining U.S. National Team Development Program teammate Tyler Boucher, who was chosen 10th overall by Ottawa on Friday night.
A native of Clarkston, Michigan, Gallagher set the USNTDP record for goals by a defenseman with 25 during his two seasons with the program. He secured 27 points (14g, 13a) in 48 games with the USNTDP in 2020-21 and led all defensemen in goals at the 2021 IIHF U18 World Championship with three.
"Our coaching staff was excited to hear Ty's name called by Boston today," head coach Albie O'Connell said. "He's a great kid who has a great attitude and a great work ethic. We expect him to make an impact on our program both on and off the ice."
Gallagher is the 11th Terrier to be drafted by the Bruins and the first since Boston selected Charlie McAvoy in the first round of the 2016 draft.
