AMESBURY, Mass. - Freshman Ryan Greene of the Boston University men's ice hockey team was named Hockey East Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Greene was outstanding in his Terrier debut on Saturday, tallying two goals and one assist for three points in an 8-2 win over Bentley. Both of Greene's goals came in the first period as he helped BU build an early 4-0 lead, with his first strike of the contest proving to be the game-winner. He also had the primary helper on Jeremy Wilmer's power-play marker that gave BU a 5-1 lead early in the second stanza. In addition to his three points, the talented center won nine faceoffs against the Falcons.
A native of Paradise, N.L., Greene became the first Terrier since Patrick Harper in 2016 to score two goals a BU season opener. All five Terrier freshmen had multiple-point performances on Saturday, as Lane Hutson notched three assists, Wilmer secured two assists in addition to his goal, and both Quinn Hutson and Devin Kaplan secured one goal and one assist.
BU will return to action on Saturday, October 8, when the Terriers host the University of Waterloo in an exhibition at Agganis Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
