Terriers Set for NCAA Northeast Regional Championship
November 10, 2022 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
BOSTON – The Boston University men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship on Friday. The race will be held at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y., with the women racing in the 6K at 11 a.m. and the men running in the 10K at noon.
In the 2021 regional contest, the women finished 12th in a 36-team field for their best finish since 2010 in which they placed 10th. The BU squad was the first Patriot League team to cross the finish line last year and three of the Terriers' five scorers return from that squad.
On the men's side, the Terriers also placed 12th in last season's regionals, besting two Patriot League teams. The finish was their best since a sixth-place showing in 2017. All five of BU's scorers return to regionals this year.
Most recently, BU finished third at the Patriot League Championship on both the men's and women's sides. Sophomore Daisy Liljegren and junior Matt Mason were named to the First-Team All-Patriot League for their second and seventh place finishes, respectively.
Grad student Meghan Convery, freshman Vera Sjöberg, senior Foster Malleck and freshman Freddy Collins each made the All-League Second-Team. Collins was also named the rookie of the meet as the first rookie to finish at the conference championship.
Depending on the outcome of the regional event, BU as a team and each individual Terrier can qualify for the NCAA National Championship. Should anyone advance to the national event, races will take place at Oklahoma State on Saturday, Nov. 19.
