Terriers Fall To Miami In 2022-23 Road Opener

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Senior Sydney Johnson and junior Kelsi Mingo each scored 11 points, but the Boston University women's basketball team was stymied by the University of Miami in an 81-46 loss on Sunday afternoon at the Watsco Center.
Senior Maren Durant and junior Caitlin Weimar each posted seven rebounds, with the latter dishing out a team-best four assists.
Latasha Lattimore recorded a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds, both game-highs. Destiny Harden scored 14 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Miami (3-0) stormed out to a 10-0 lead, keeping BU (0-2) off the scoreboard until Weimar collected an offensive rebound for layup at the 6:50 mark.
- BU got within 10 points on separate occasions after Johnson nailed a stepback jumper by the left elbow and freshman Sam Crispe sank a left-handed layup, but Lola Pendande and Lattimore capped the first quarter with makes inside the arc for a 22-8 edge after one.
- BU made its first three of the game two minutes into the second, a straightaway bucket from Johnson to push BU within 15 points.
- Mingo drained a right-corner three midway through the stanza, but Haley Cavinder responded with her own triple on the next play to make it 35-16.
- The Terriers held the Hurricanes without a point in the final 2:52 of the first half, with Crispe's layup from a Weimar feed capping the score at 40-21 through two quarters.
- Johnson opened the third with a pair of free throws, but a 20-0 Miami run pushed its advantage to 60-23.
- Johnson and senior Liz Shean converted baskets on back-to-back possessions in the fourth quarter, the former a pullup jumper and the latter on an open layup in transition with 7:10 to play.
- The Hurricanes took their largest lead at 79-34 with 3:43 to play. Mingo would score three of BU's final four field goals, including a pair of threes.

- As a team, BU shot 30.4 percent from the field. Miami hit 44.3 percent of their shots.
- The Hurricanes had a 44-31 advantage on the glass, grabbing 15 offensive rebounds to the Terriers' 10.
- BU recorded an assist on 70.5 percent of their baskets.
- The Terriers outscored the Hurricanes 18-17 in the fourth quarter.
- Weimar and sophomore Lauren Davenport each swatted two shots.
GAME NOTES
- Johnson, in her first game of the season, notched her 45th career game in double figures.
- Mingo notched the second double-digit effort of her career, and first since Dec. 19, 2021. In her career, she has made 13 of her 26 three-point attempts (50 percent).
- Weimar led BU in assists for the second time since the start of last year. Her four assists matched her career-high.
- BU falls to 4-16 all-time against ACC opponents. Sunday was the first meeting between the Terriers and the Hurricanes.
