The No. 7/6 Boston University men's ice hockey team will close out the first semester with a top-10 tilt at No. 8 UConn on Sunday at XL Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m. The contest will be streamed on ESPN+, with an audio-only broadcast located here.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU enters the weekend having suffered a 9-6 setback at Boston College on Friday night.
- Senior Matt Brown led the Terriers with four points on one goal and a career-high three assists.
- Brown now paces the Terriers in goals (8), assists (14) and points (22).
- Senior Wilmer Skoog matched a career high with three points against the Eagles, scoring two goals and assisting on Brown's strike.
- Junior Nick Zabaneh and freshman Jeremy Wilmer each tallied one goal and one assist.
- Freshman Quinn Hutson also found the back of the net, marking the third straight game he has lit the lamp.
- Senior captain Domenick Fensore notched an assist in his 100th game as a Terrier, one of eight different Terriers to secure a helper.
- Junior Cade Webber also had an assist, as did seniors Jamie Armstrong, Jay O'Brien and Ethan Phillips.
- The Terriers average 4.0 goals per game, which is tops in Hockey East and third-most in the NCAA.
- They also average 36.4 shots on goal per game, which ranks second in the country and first in Hockey East.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Terriers and Huskies have had 24 prior meetings and BU is 13-9-2 (.583) in them, including a weekend split at Agganis in October.
- BU took the second game, 5-2, after a 4-3 overtime loss the previous night.
- Matt Brown, who had four points in Friday's fixture at BC, also had four points (2g, 2a) in that October win over UConn.
- The last regular-season contest between the two teams at XL Center was a 2-1 overtime triumph for BU on Jan. 14.
- Jay O'Brien netted the OT-winner just eight seconds into the extra session.
- BU has won four out of seven and eight of the last 14 overall meetings against UConn.
- The Terriers have won the last two OT games, including a 3-2 triumph at Freitas Ice Forum on Feb. 20, 2021.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
- UConn last played on Dec. 2, suffering a 7-3 home loss to then-No. 12 Merrimack.
- The Huskies did defeat Merrimack, 3-1, in North Andover on Nov. 29.
- Ryan Tverberg leads UConn in goals (10) and points (17), with Andrew Lucas pacing the Huskies with 12 assists.
- Lucas is third on the squad in points (13), just one point behind Matthew Wood (5g, 9a).
- Both Arsenii Sergeev and Logan Terness earned a start in goal against BU in October.
- Terness made 24 saves in the OT win over BU and enters Sunday with a .918 save percentage and a 2.32 goals-against average.
- Sergeev stopped 38 shots in the 5-2 loss to the Terriers and enters Sunday with a .920 save percentage and a 2.51 goals-against average.
- BU will return to action on Dec. 30 when the Terriers host No. 15 Harvard at Walter Brown Arena.
