October 10, 2023 | Men's Soccer
ALLSTON, Mass. – Helped by sophomore Alex Bonnington's third goal of the season and senior Francesco Montali's two saves, the Boston University men's soccer team posted a 1-1 draw at Harvard Tuesday night.
Extending their unbeaten streak to seven games, the Terriers move to 7-2-3, while the Crimson now sit at 2-3-6 with all six draws occurring at home, including a pair of 1-1 ties against nationally-ranked opponents.
Both graduate student Colin Innes and freshman Jason Zacarias assisted on Bonnington's 10th-minute strike for the early 1-0 lead. Harvard's Alessandro Arlotti netted the equalizer off an impressive high-arching free kick attempt at 21:53.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Harvard pressured BU's backline early with a couple of crosses into the box and a shot attempt that sailed over the crossbar.
- BU though would strike first when Zacaris collected the ball at midfield and played it up to Innes, who went down the field and found a sprinting Bonnington for a quick shot past the diving Lucian Wood.
- The Terriers earned their first corner in the 12th minute but were unable to get off a shot.
- Harvard drew a foul just outside the box, and Alessandro Arlotti delivered an impressive strike over Montali toward the upper left corner of the net at 21:53.
- Both Innes and graduate student Quinn Matulis forced saves from Wood during the last 20 minutes of the half.
- The second half was a lot of back-and-forth action with the two teams combining for nine corners.
- Montali made an impressive diving save on Andreas Savva's shot attempt from a left angle while on the run at 54:22 and helped the backline defend against back-to-back corners.
- Harvard blocked Bonnington's attempt at 67:53 and watched sophomore Giuseppe Bagnato's header go just wide off the ensuing corner.
- The Crimson earned three corners during the final 10 minutes but were unable to put a shot on target.
- BU drew a foul with 10 seconds left, leading to Montali sailing the free kick toward the box and Harvard pushing the ball away for the draw.
- BU's seven-game unbeaten streak (4-0-3) is the program's longest since going 8-0-1 in 2014.
- Zacarias become the ninth Terrier to record an assist and 13th overall to earn a point this year.
- Junior Andrew Soczynski was the lone field player for either team to play all 90 minutes.
- With Bonnington finding the back of the net, BU has three Terriers with 3+ goals for the first since 2021.
- The Crimson finished with a 12-7 advantage in shots and 6-5 edge in corners.
- BU and Harvard battled to a draw for the first time since finishing in a 0-0 tie in 2013 in Allston.
- The Terriers will next resume Patriot League play at Lafayette on Saturday (Oct. 14) with a 1 p.m. start time.
- The Leopards are on a five-game unbeaten streak (3-0-2) following last year's scoreless draw at Nickerson Field.
