Women’s Soccer Hosts Yale for Fifty Forward Match on Tuesday

BOSTON - The Boston University women's soccer team is set to face Yale on Tuesday (Oct. 17). Opening kick is set for 7 p.m. at Nickerson Field. 

Tuesday is the Terriers' (6-5-4) final non-conference game before their final stretch ahead of the Patriot League Tournament. BU has gone 3-1-1 at home against out-of-league foes in 2023.
 
Yale (5-4-4) also takes part in its non-conference finale before resuming Ivy League action. All five of the Bulldogs' victories have come outside of conference play.
 
In addition to ESPN+, the match will air on NESN as part of BU Athletics' Fifty Forward series. Director of Athletics Drew Marrochello will be a guest at halftime with play-by-play broadcaster David Korzeniowski. Tuesday is also Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night, as the program will honor select professors that have impacted the senior class.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • The Terriers fought to a 3-3 draw against Bucknell on Saturday (Oct. 14).
  • Junior Morgan Fagan tallied the Terriers' first two goals of the contest, her second and third goals of the season. 
  • In the 78th minute, sophomore Margy Porta scored her first collegiate goal to even the contest. 
  • Junior goalkeeper Celia Braun recorded seven saves in her fifteenth start of the season. She is now eight stops away from matching Stephanie Dreyer '07 for fifth place in career saves in the BU record book.
  • Entering the week, the Terriers are fourth in the Patriot League with 11 points and a 3-2-2 record.
  • Three additional Patriot League programs face out-of-conference opponents on Tuesday: Holy Cross (Chicago State), Navy (Delaware State), Bucknell (Princeton).
  • The Terriers have registered multiple goals in six out of their last eight contests.

SCOUTING YALE
  • Yale is 5-4-4 on the season and is coming off a 1-1 draw against Cornell. 
  • Yale is sixth in the Ivy League with an 0-3-2 record. 
  • The Bulldogs are 2-2-3 on the road this season. Their last victory came on Sept. 25 at Fordham.
  • Junior Ellie Rappole leads Yale with five goals this season. Marisa Shorrock has made 10 starts in goal, recording a 1.35 goals-against average.
  • Last year, the Bulldogs went 7-5-3, with a 3-1-2 mark vs. the Ivy League.
SERIES HISTORY
  • Tuesday marks the eighth all-time meeting between BU and Yale in a series that began in 1998.
  • The Terriers sport a 4-3 advantage in the rivalry.
  • Yale took the game between the two sides last season, 1-0 in New Haven, Conn. thanks to Alanna Butcher's goal. 
  • The Terriers won the last contest at Nickerson Field, 1-0 during the 2021 season. Ashley Raphael found the back of the net in the 86th minute.
  • The Terriers are 4-0 all-time in home contests against Yale.
