Cross Country Set to Compete at Patriot League Championships
October 27, 2023 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
BOSTON – The Boston University men's and women's cross country teams are prepped to compete in the Patriot League Championships at Colgate on Saturday. The women's 6K race begins at 10:30 a.m. and the men's 8K race starts at 11:30 a.m. with the races in Hamilton, N.Y., for the first time since 2019.
Both the men's and women's squads placed third at the championships in 2022 behind Army West Point in second and Navy in first. The women's squad last won the title in 2021-22 while the men's team has never been crowned champion. The last time the championships were held at Colgate, the BU women won the conference title.
The women most recently competed at the ECAC Championships at Van Cortlandt Park. They came home sixth overall with freshmen Kelly Jones, Adrienne Buettner-Cable, Abby Waddington and Molly Kiley all in scoring position for BU. Previously at the Paul Short Run, freshman Hannah Prosser, sophomore Vera Sjöberg and junior Daisy Liljegren finished in BU's top three spots, respectively, to help BU to a third-place team finish at the event.
Prosser led the Terriers in each race she participated in this season, running to first place at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational and second place overall at the Paul Short Run. She was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Sept. 19 and the Runner of the Week on Oct. 3. Fellow first-year Kiley was the lone additional Terrier to pick up a weekly award this season when she was named Rookie of the Week on Oct. 3.
The men ran to a second-place finish at the IC4A Championships in their most recent race. Grad student Foster Malleck, sophomores Freddy Collins and Parker Schneider, senior Rob Hannon and grad student Mike Hagen all scored for the Terriers. A combination of that group plus senior Alex Brown and sophomore Moritz Ebbeskotte were scorers for BU at the Paul Short Run earlier this season.
Hannon was the lone Terrier to receive a weekly accolade from the PL this season when he was named Runner of the Week on Sept. 19 following his performance at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
