The No. 2 Boston University men's ice hockey team will begin the second half of the season on Friday night when the Terriers trek to New Haven, Connecticut, for a non-conference matchup with Yale. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
WELCOME TO BU
- The Terriers added freshman goaltender Max Lacroix to their roster for the second semester.
- Lacroix played 12 games for the Colorado Grit of the North American Hockey League this season, posting a 3.16 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage.
- BU has not played since sweeping a home-and-home series with Merrimack on Dec. 1-2.
- The Terriers earned a 4-1 road win and a 5-2 home victory in those two tilts to stay atop the Hockey East standings entering 2024.
- BU will be without three key players for Friday's game, as freshman Macklin Celebrini (Canada), sophomore Lane Hutson (USA) and freshman Tom Willander (Sweden) are representing their respective countries at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship in Sweden.
- Celebrini has been fantastic in two games with Canada, leading all skaters with six points (2g, 4a) through two games, including five points (1g, 4a) in a 10-0 win over Latvia on Wednesday.
- Hutson and Willander also helped their teams start the tournament 1-0.
- Freshman Shane Lachance scored twice in the 4-1 win at Merrimack and was named Hockey East Rookie of the Week for his efforts.
- Since the start of November, Lachance has tallied three goals and five assists for eight points in 10 games.
- Sophomores Ryan Greene (6g, 10a) and Quinn Hutson (8g, 8a) are tied for third on the Terriers in scoring.
- Hutson notched one goal and two assists in the weekend sweep of Merrimack while Greene had two assists in the 4-1 triumph over the Warriors.
SERIES HISTORY
- This will be the first meeting between BU and Yale since Dec. 13, 2016, when the Terriers topped the Bulldogs, 5-2, at Agganis Arena.
- That win pushed BU to a slight edge in the all-time series, with the Terriers owning a 32-31-3 record against Yale.
- That includes a 10-6-1 record at Ingalls Rink.
- The last time BU visited Yale was on Dec. 11, 2015, with the Bulldogs earning a 3-2 win.
- The teams first met on Feb. 13, 1924, with Yale posting its first of 20 straight victories against the Terriers in a 6-0 shutout on Bishop's Pond in New Haven.
- The two teams have played eight overtime games with BU holding a 4-1-3 edge.
- There have been 10 shutouts in the series history and each team has five to its credit.
- BU is 8-1-2 in its last 11 games against Yale.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
- Yale enters Friday with a 4-8-0 record, though the Bulldogs bounced back from four straight losses with a pair of home wins to close out the first semester, as they defeated Merrimack, 5-2, on Dec. 8 before besting LIU, 5-3, on Dec. 10.
- Sophomore David Chen leads Yale with 11 points thanks to five goals and a team-best six assists.
- Junior Briggs Gammill paces Yale with six goals and is second on the squad with nine points.
