BU Drops 4-3 Decision to No. 43 Denver

ALLSTON, Mass. – The Boston University women's tennis team (9-4, 1-0 PL) fell just short of a victory over No. 43 Denver (11-2, 2-0 Summit) on Sunday in a 4-3 decision. The Terriers picked up the doubles point and two singles wins in the loss.
In doubles, BU took the first victory with a 6-4 win in the No. 3 spot thanks to junior Victoria Carlsten and freshman Emily Zhao. After Denver claimed the win at the No. 2 spot, senior Erica Di Battista and junior Kaitlin Tan earned a 6-4 win at the top of the lineup to give BU the doubles point.
The first Terrier to win in singles was grad student Shelly Yaloz who faced No. 65 Taylor Melville. Yaloz took the first set 7-5 but Melville fought back to take the second set 6-4. The grad student did not falter and came back to win the final set 6-4 and give BU its second point of the day.
Even though Denver secured the victory with a fourth singles win, Zhao battled through three sets at the No. 5 spot. She won the first set 6-2 and dropped the second set 6-4 before finding herself in a competitive final set. Zhao took the final set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (5), to give the Terriers their third and final point of the day.
BU will continue its season as it heads to Brown for a 3 p.m. matchup on Saturday (March 18).
