Softball to Battle Lehigh for PL Tournament Hosting Rights in Weekend Series

BOSTON – In a battle of top-75 RPI squads, the Boston University softball team will wrap up the regular season at Lehigh in a weekend series with Patriot League tournament hosting rights on the line. Both Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's single game will feature a 12 p.m. first pitch.
The Terriers and Mountain Hawks are atop the conference standings at 15-0, while Army West Point, Bucknell, Colgate and Lafayette remain alive for the other two spots in next week's tournament. BU leads the nation with a 16-game road win streak and is second overall at 26 consecutive wins, one shy of tying its own PL record that was snapped by Lehigh last season.
BU earned its program record fourth straight conference regular season title, but Lehigh managed to capture the tournament title along with the automatic NCAA berth.

TERRIER TIDBITS
- The Terriers are 19-2 in true road games this year with both losses coming against top 50 RPI squads, including 11-1 defeat at Charlotte and 2-0 decision at San Diego State. The Terriers defeated SDSU a day later, 5-3.
- As a team, BU ranks in the top 50 nationally in 12 categories and in the top 15 in nine categories, including second in shutouts (22), second in triples per game (0.57) and third in fielding percentage (.982).
- Junior Kayla Roncin ranks third nationally at 80 hits, one shy of her own BU record, and is 20th with a PL-high .435 batting average.
- Classmate Lauren Keleher is also batting over .400 at .404 with 67 hits, while senior Caitlin Coker (.366) has 60 hits, including an NCAA-leading 10 triples.
- In the circle, senior reigning PL Pitcher of the Week Allison Boaz (21-4, 1.40 ERA) owns 137 strikeouts in 150.1 innings while holding opponents to .208.
- Freshman Kasey Ricard (18-2, 1.74 ERA) owns four saves with 178 strikeouts in 133.0 innings and an opposing batting average of .172. Senior Lizzy Avery (7-1, 1.55 ERA) owns the other save this year.
- Overall, BU is batting .328 while holding opponents to .195 with a 69-22 advantage in doubles and 30-3 lead in triples. Last weekend, Army produced four homers in three games against the Terriers to give opponents a 22-17 edge in hits going yard.
- The Mountain Hawks are 10-3 at home this season with a 1-2 mark against Seton Hall and 12-1 loss to Villanova. In PL play, Lehigh swept Bucknell and Army West Point with just one game being decided by one run against the Black Knights.
- Lehigh ranks in the top 50 nationally in eight categories, including 22nd in batting average (.315) and 29th in fielding percentage (.974).
- Jose Charles is hitting a team-high .426 with 66 hits, while Carley Barajakarovich (.403) owns 73 hits, sixth best nationally.
- Emily Cimino (.344) leads Lehigh with 44 RBIs, thanks in part to 15 doubles, three triples and six homers. Lily Owens (.321) also owns six homers with 29 RBIs.
- In the circle, Chloe Hess (14-4, 2.00 ERA) owns six saves with 113 strikeouts in 136.1 innings. Katelyn Young (19-5, 2.52 ERA) has 109 strikeouts in 15.0 innings.
- Overall, Lehigh is batting .315 while holding opponents to .234 with a 71-47 advantage in doubles and 73-48 lead in stolen bases.
- BU leads the all-time series, 21-16, after posting a 2-4 record last season with all six contests taking place at home.
- The Terriers and Mountain Hawks have met in the PL championship round each of the last five tournaments with BU triumphing in 2018, 2019 and 2021. Lehigh won both games on the final day in 2017 and 2022.
- Last season, BU won the first tournament meeting, 1-0, but lost the last two meetings, 1-0 and 4-1.
- In the Terriers' last trip to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, BU posted a 16-0 (5) run-rule victory and then a 1-0 win in 2021.
- Either BU or Lehigh will host the PL tournament on May 11-13 with the other team earning a No. 2 seed.
