Softball Set to Open PL Series With Bucknell Friday at Noon

BOSTON – Continuing Patriot League play at home, the Boston University softball team will host Bucknell in a three-game series starting with Friday's doubleheader at 12 p.m. Saturday's single contest will also feature a 12 p.m. first pitch.

The Terriers are currently tied atop the PL standings with Colgate at 5-1 after earning a sweep at Lafayette and posting 2-1 home record vs. Lehigh.

TERRIER TIDBITS

BU owns a 11-1 record at home with run-rule wins over UConn, Brown, Quinnipiac, UMass Lowell and Stonehill.
Senior Brooke Deppiesse leads the Terriers batting .387 with 35 runs scored alongside six homers and 33 RBIs, while freshman Irys Kline (.358) owns a team-high .504 on-base percentage thanks to 26 walks.
Ranked the nation's No. 23 outfielder entering the month of April by Softball America, junior Kylie Doherty (.354) is currently tied for the single-season program record at 14 homers with 47 RBIs, eight shy of tying the school record held by Kayla Roncin ('24).
Senior Megan Coyle (.327) is third on the team at 25 RBIs and is the doubles leader at eight total alongside three homers.
In the circle, PL all-time best 17-time Pitcher of the Week Kasey Ricard (18-5, 3.10 ERA) already owns a program-record 92 career victories and is two away from tying the conference mark. She has tallied 148 strikeouts this year over 140.0 innings of work
Senior Haley Ganino (6-1, 3.04 ERA) has pitched 50.2 innings and earned one save alongside Ricard.
BU is batting .327 as a team and holding opponents to .258 with advantages in extra-base hits (90-66) and walks (153-86) alongside a 39-16 deficit in stolen bases.

SCOUTING BUCKNELL

The Bison started off PL play at home with a 2-1 record against Holy Cross, highlighted by 8-7 and 2-1 wins over the Crusaders alongside a 4-1 loss.
Bucknell most recently claimed a 25-2 (5) win and 12-12 (8) tie against Saint Francis last Thursday (March 28).
Both Barbara Jo Coppola and Sarah Zimmerman are batting identical .355 with a combined 15 doubles, 29 runs scored and 32 RBIs.
Brooke Popella (.311) leads the Bison with 19 RBIs, while Haley Speicher (.302) owns a team-high 21 runs scored.
Avery Powers (3-9, 5.30 ERA) has totaled 57 strikeouts over 71.1 innings of work, while Zimmerman (2-10, 8.9 ERA) has recorded 25 strikeouts over 51.2 innings.
The Bison are batting .286 and holding teams to .359 with opponents posting a 47-13 advantage in stolen bases and 29-8 lead in homers.

SERIES HISTORY

BU leads the all-time series, 30-7, having won the last 18 matchups.
Last season at Bucknell, the Terriers first claimed a 14-7 (15) victory and then completed the sweep with 8-4 and 8-2 decisions.
Two years ago, BU went 4-0 at home, starting off with a 7-0 win and then earning back-to-back 1-0 victories that featured one ending in the 12th inning.
The teams faced off one more time in the 2024 PL tournament with the Terriers claiming a 5-2 victory.

LOOKING AHEAD

BU will conclude the homestand by hosting Providence in a doubleheader slated for 2 p.m. start on Wednesday (April 8).
Last year, the Friars rallied in the bottom of the seventh with three runs for a 3-2 home win over the Terriers.
The teams last played at BU in 2024 with the Terriers posting a 2-0-1 record that included a game that finished in a 1-1 tie due to darkness.
