June 23, 2023 | Men's Lacrosse
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Thirteen members of the Boston University men's lacrosse team were selected to the 2023 New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Division I All-Academic Team, as announced on Friday.
Four Terriers - graduate students Jett Dziama, Matt Garber, Matt Hilburn and Timmy Ley - earned a spot on the All-Academic squad for the second straight season. They were joined on this year's team by seniors Conor Calderone, Jason Child, Vince D'Alto, Miles Lipton, Roy Meyer, Thomas Niedringhaus and Louis Perfetto, as well as graduate students Jake Cates and Blake Phillips. Nominees must have senior or graduate student standing, a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale, and be an impact player for their team.
This is not the first academic accolade this season for Ley and Meyer, as they were both named to the 2023 Academic All-Patriot League Team. In addition, Meyer received the 2023 E. Ray Speare Award as the top male senior scholar-athlete at BU, an award Garber won in 2022.
NEILA All-Academic nominees must have senior or graduate student standing, a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale, and be an impact player for their team. Nine of the 13 All-Academic recipients (Calderone, Cates, D'Alto, Dziama, Garber, Ley, Meyer, Niedringhaus, Perfetto) have earned either All-New England or All-Patriot League during their impressive careers, while Hilburn, Ley and Garber were 2022 USILA Scholar All-Americans.
