HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alexa Jindal inserted the first corner kick of the match for Lafayette in the fifth minute, but BU cleared it away despite the Leopards maintaining pressure in the Terriers' end.
- Lafayette struck first in the seventh minute when Santelli collected a stretch pass ahead of multiple Terrier defenders, racing towards the net and tucking home a shot into the lower-left corner.
- The Terriers had multiple quality chances beginning in the 16th minute. Gianino had two tries collected by Apker, sophomore Samantha Aronson's run down the left sideline and attempt to find the upper-right corner was saved, and senior Morgan Fagan's left-footed try atop the box led to a diving stop from Apker.
- Neither side created a shot in the last 23 minutes of the first half, though sophomore Ava Maguire had a cross in the final moments bounce narrowly wide left of the post.
- In the 55th minute, the Terriers had two shots blocked inside the box. The second of a pair of BU corner kicks sailed over Apker, but bounced wide of the right post.
- Fagan had a 1-on-1 opportunity in the 65th minute after BU intercepted possession near midfield. Apker denied the senior's shot towards the right post from six yards away.
- Avellar had a scoring chance from a similar spot as Fagan seven minutes later, receiving Gianino's pass for a shot that went over the woodwork. Moments later, Matthews blasted a shot right onto Apker.
- BU got on the scoreboard in the 75th minute when Matthews dished off to Avellar in the right corner. Her cross bounced to an open Gianino by the left post, who zipped the shot past Apker to level the score at 1-1.
- Fagan nearly put the Terriers ahead with a flick by the right post, but Apker barely tipped the shot to send it over the crossbar. The Lafayette keeper then punched away BU's ensuing corner kick in the 87th minute.
- In addition to its 14-3 edge in shots, BU sported a 10-2 advantage in shots on target.
- Gianino paced all student-athletes with five shots, four of which were on goal. All three of Fagan's shots went on target.
- The Terriers generated eight corner kicks, all of which came in the second half.
- Lafayette sustained two yellow cards in the match.
- Carr, senior Allison Hanlon, and junior Helene Tyburczy played the full 90 minutes.
- With her 17th-career goal, Gianino moves into sole possession of 12th place in the Terrier record books.
- She also becomes the 18th Terrier in program history to record at last 40 points in the Scarlet and White. She is tied with Rebecca Beyer '03 for 16th all-time with 41 career points.
- Matthews has picked up two assists in her last three Patriot League matches.
- Avellar's assist is her first collegiate point. She is the fifth Terrier to achieve that feat in 2024.
- BU has picked up five points across its three Patriot League road contests, and remains the lone unbeaten team in conference play this year.
- The Terriers all-time record against Lafayette moves to 10-1-2, with the unbeaten streak against the Leopards improving to five games.
- BU returns to the Bay State to visit Holy Cross in a Turnpike Trophy matchup on Wednesday (Oct. 16). Opening kick is scheduled for 7 p.m.
