No. 15 Terriers Prepped for Home-and-Home Series With Merrimack

BOSTON – The Boston University women's ice hockey team (8-3-0, 6-1-0 HE) is set to face Merrimack (4-4-0, 2-3-0 HE) in a home-and-home series this weekend. BU will travel to Merrimack on Thursday (Nov. 7) for a 6 p.m. game before hosting the Warriors on Friday (Nov. 8) for a 3 p.m. tilt.
 
Friday's game will be Heroes Night at Agganis Arena. It will also be the final doubleheader with men's hockey this semester.
 
TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU extended its win streak to seven games with a weekend sweep over Providence in 5-1 and 3-2 results, respectively.
  • In the 5-1 win, sophomore Neely Nicholson, juniors Riley Walsh and Clara Yuhn, senior Ani FitzGerald and freshman Lola Reid all scored. Nicholson's goal was her first of the season and BU's first shorthanded goal of the year.
  • Yuhn and fellow junior Luisa Welcke scored in Saturday's titlt with Welcke's goals being her first of the season as well.
  • Seven Terriers logged an assist on the weekend with senior Christina Vote picking up three in the series. She now leads BU in assists with eight.
  • BU is currently ranked No. 15 in both the USCHO and USA Hockey Polls after its weekend sweep over Providence. 
  • BU is ninth in the NCAA and is third Hockey East in penalty killing percentage (.914) and did not give up a power play goal from Oct. 4-Nov. 2.
  • Reid continues to lead BU and Hockey East in points (13) and goals (7) and is +12.
  • Senior Callie Shanahan helped BU sweep the weekend series against Providence, making 33 saves at home and 21 saves on the road.
  • Shanahan's GAA of 1.17 leads Hockey East while she is third in the NCAA and first in the league in save percentage (0.952).
  • Lu. Welcke's two goals at Providence marked the first time she scored multiple goals in a game since Dec. 2, 2022 when she was playing for Maine against BU.
  • FitzGerald had a career day against Providence with a goal and two assists.
  • Li. Welcke is ranked 16th in the NCAA and third in Hockey East in faceoff wins with 104.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • The Terriers are 19-4-5 all-time against Merrimack, including an 11-2-3 home record.
  • BU opened the season with a 7-1 win over the Warriors to improve to 2-0-0 against Merrimack at Agganis Arena.  
  • The seven goals BU scored in that game is a season best.
  • BU won all three meetings against Merrimack in 2023-24, most notably winning 4-0 on Feb. 17, 2024.
  • The last time Merrimack won in the series was Feb. 22, 2023 in overtime, 5-4.  
  • Former BU captain Madison Cardaci currently plays for Merrimack as a graduate student.
 
SCOUTING MERRIMACK
  • Merrimack is 4-4-0 overall and 2-3-0 in Hockey East play.
  • The Warriors' two league wins came against Vermont, winning both games 3-2.
  • Merrimack's other two wins are from its weekend sweep of Lindenwood in 5-1 and 4-1 decisions.
  • The Warriors most recently dropped a 7-3 game at Boston College.
  • Ten different Warriors have scored at least one goal this season and all but five have recorded at least one point.
