Women’s Basketball Opens February Slate At Lehigh

BOSTON – Beginning the final full month of regular season play, the Boston University women's basketball team treks to Bethlehem, Pa. to face Lehigh on Saturday (Feb. 3). Opening tip is set for 2 p.m.

BU (13-7, 5-4 PL) aims to halt its four-game road losing streak. Since Jan. 6, the Terriers have alternated wins and losses, but have not lost more than two-straight games during the 2023-24 campaign.

Lehigh (12-8, 4-5 PL) sits one game behind BU for fourth place in the Patriot League standings. The Mountain Hawks look to improve to 7-3 at home this year.

TERRIER TIDBITS

BU fell to defending champion Holy Cross, 61-50, on Monday (Jan. 29) in Worcester.
The Crusaders broke a 16-16 tie early in the second quarter to lead the rest of the way, as the Terriers shot a season-low 29 percent despite a season-high 62 field goal attempts.
Senior Caitlin Weimar collected 13 points and 17 rebounds, while classmate Kelsi Mingo added a team-best and career-high tying 15 points.
Junior Alex Giannaros notched 11 points and three steals.
BU is 10-1 this season when scoring at least 60 points. When hitting fewer, it is 3-6.
In their last five games, the Terriers are averaging 10.6 turnovers, down from 18.4 per game in the first 15 matchups.
BU's .357 three-point percentage and 4.7 blocks per game rank first in the Patriot League, while it is second with a .434 field goal percentage, .374 field goal percentage defense, and 13.8 personal fouls per game.
Four Terriers are scoring nine or more points per game during Patriot League action: Weimar, Giannaros, sophomore Anastasiia Semenova, and Mingo.
In that span, Weimar is the league leader in scoring (19 points per game), rebounding (12.7 per game), blocks (3.3 per game), and minutes (38 per game).
Giannaros is top-five during that stretch in assists per game (3.7 – second), and steals per game (fifth – 1.9).
Mingo's 16 three-pointers are fourth in the conference against league opponents.

SCOUTING LEHIGH

The Mountain Hawks recently fell to Navy on the road, 62-46.
Prior to that, Lehigh won three of its last four contests.
Lehigh ranks first in the Patriot League in scoring average, assists per game, free throw percentage, and made three-pointers per game.
Ella Stemmer leads the Mountain Hawks with 13.8 points per game this year, while reigning Patriot League Player of the Week Maddie Albrecht has a team-best 13.6 points per game against league foes.
The Mountain Hawks were picked to finish fourth in the preseason poll under second-year head coach Addie Micir, who is in her fifth season at Lehigh.
Last year, Lehigh went 17-14 overall, going 12-6 to reach the Patriot League semifinal round.

SERIES HISTORY

Saturday marks the 23rd all-time meeting between BU and Lehigh in a series that began in 1989.
The series is tied 11-11, with each team garnering eight wins in the last 16 contests.
The Terriers are 5-6 on the road against the Mountain Hawks.
BU swept the series last season, picking up 82-69 and 78-65 victories.
The Terriers led for 70:13 of the 80 total minutes, and dropped a combined 53 points in the third quarters of the two games.
