Men's Basketball to Honor Senior Class, Host Crusaders in Turnpike Trophy Doubleheader

BOSTON – Riding a four-game win streak, the Boston University men's basketball team will wrap up the regular season by hosting Holy Cross Saturday at Case Gym in a Turnpike Trophy clash with tip-off slated for 12 p.m.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the Senior Day ceremony that will recognize team captain Miles Brewster, Evan Haber, Anthony Morales and Andrew Patnode and to also stay after the contest, as the Terrier women will face the Crusaders starting at 3 p.m. As part of the men's pre-game festivities, there will also be a recognition of long time BU play by play broadcaster Doug Brown (COM'78), who will be retiring from his BU duties at the end of the men's basketball season.

Holy Cross currently owns a 6-5 advantage in the Turnpike Trophy all-sports competition after most recently defeating BU in women's ice hockey this past Wednesday. 

In the PL standings, BU sits in fourth place alongside Lehigh and Bucknell. The Terriers can clinch a home quarterfinal game with a victory, while the Crusaders are attempting to host a first round game.  

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU has won the last two games in overtime, an 82-79 home decision over Loyola Maryland last Sunday and a 64-62 victory at Lehigh this past Wednesday.
  • The Terriers are 7-6 at home this year having won the last two games, including a 74-65 victory over Navy.
  • Brewster is averaging 15.0 points over the last three victories to increase his team-leading scoring average to 10.7 ppg. He also leads BU in both assists (3.2 apg) and in steals (1.5 spg) while shooting 40.9 percent from behind the arc.
  • Four-time PL Rookie of the Week Kyrone Alexander is second on the team at 8.9 ppg having tallied 20.5 pppg over the last two contests.
  • Sophomore Otto Landrum (8.7 ppg) and Morales (8.6 ppg) are close behind in scoring with Landrum owning a team-high 5.6 rpg.
  • During the active four-game win streak, BU is averaging 71.8 ppg and 44.9 FG%.
  • The Terriers will try to enter a conference tournament on a five-plus game win streak for the first time since 2010-11 season when they entered on an eight-game win streak.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS
  • The Crusaders are 4-13 on the road this season compared to their 5-8 home mark, earning conference wins at Loyola Maryland (70-67) and at Lehigh (69-66 OT) along with a 68-67 non-conference victory at Georgetown.
  • Joe Octave leads HC at 13.8 ppg and 5.9 rpg, while Caleb Kenney owns 11.7 ppg, 6.5 rpg and 65 blocks.
  • HC's Dave Paulsen marks the fifth first-year PL head coach to visit BU this season. He was previously the head coach at Bucknell before heading to George Mason.
  • Overall, the Crusaders are averaging 66.9 ppg and 44.3 FG% while holding opponents to 76.3 ppg and 45.9 FG%.
SERIES HISTORY
  • The Crusaders lead the the all-time series, 61-27, in a rivalry that dates back to 1902-03.
  • Holy Cross has won the last three meetings and five of the previous six, including most recently a 65-63 decision at the Hart Center back on Jan. 29 when Kenney earned seven blocks.
  • BU last won in 2022 with a 78-65 road victory. The Terriers have dropped three straight home games, previously winning in 2021, 86-68.
UP NEXT
  • BU has clinched a first round bye for the Patriot League tournament and will either host or visit an opponent on Thursday, March 7, depending on how Saturday's results turn out.
